There is always some prep for the lessons, but most everything is done for you: printable (not worksheets; they are printable the students use to interact ), introduction, list of materials needed, objectives, process, closure, etc.

Once you open the zip file, you will see all the lessons. Some are PDFs and others are zip files that you must open up to obtain all the parts to the lesson. i.e Push and Pull Factors is a zip file. Once opened, you will be able to access the Powerpoint, Pdf Lesson, etc. This is a very larger file, so it make take some time to download. This is a Geography Asia research or wrap-up assignment that can be used throughout the study of Asia (or modified to fit another topic) in geography, world history, and other social studies classes. I have used this in my class for 7 years and it has been a very successful learning tool. This can easily be modified the assignment to fit various topics. Students and parents love this assignment because it is fun and reflects what students have learned. Students are proud of their work when they finish. The idea of the lesson can be changed to fit studies within other core subjects, such as science. This is a supplemental activity that will enhance students learning within the unit study. The teacher-ready supplemental activities included in this lesson are focused on an Asia Unit.

• Create a Population Pyramid Template
• Ipads or computers for those who wish to choose their own data to create a population pyramid.
• Ziplock Bags for Game Pieces
• Colored pencils, crayons, markers & ruler. (Per Group)

• Tape the 4 “Location Photos,” One in Each Corner.

PREPARATION:

• Fully read over the lesson and instructions. Understand the content so, as the instructor, you can help direct and guide students’ where they need assistance and have questions.
• Laminate the What Influences Population Distribution Game and any other materials you would like to reuse in the future
• Print off the following: 3-Page Reading Activity, Population Pyramid Option #1, Population Pyramid Option #2 and Population Pyramid Template (One per group). Staple into a packet.
• Cut out the game pieces for each group, laminate them, and place them in Ziplock bags. Also, laminate the game card.
• Prepare and charge Ipads and/or make computers available for those who wish to gather population distribution information from Census.com and StatisticsTimes.com.
• Print off Exit Cards and Population Pyramid Presentation Grading Rubric.

In 1989, after the death of pro-reform Chinese Communist Party (CCP) general secretary Hu Yaobang in April 1989, a younger Chinese generation wanted changes in the government and to be heard. In response, the communist government enforced marshall law on the night of 3 June, deploying troops and military tanks to occupy the square in on the crowds of students and young adults who were peacefully protesting calling for greater accountability of the government, constitutional due process, democracy, freedom of the press, and freedom of speech. China's communist government would get control of its citizens. This event has many names and is often referred to as the Tiananmen Square Massacre, the Tiananmen uprising. the June Fourth Incident, or '89 Democracy Movement.

This informative geography and civics lesson will take students on a journey into the events surrounding the Tiananmen Square Massacre and examine what government policies led to the devastating outcomes. Students will understand the similarities and differences in the constitutional and basic rights of those under communism versus democracy. The younger generation fought for more democratic rights while the communist government fought to keep its stronghold on the Chinese citizens.

OBJECTIVE:

o The learner will examine the theories behind Karl Marx's communism.

o The learner will identify the characteristics and political philosophy of Marxism.

o The learner will examine how Marxism played a vital role in communism.

o The learner will compare how communism is implemented and ruled in the four remaining communist countries of the 21st century.

o Students will be assigned a communist country and will apply the information learned and researched to determine whether communism is effective or ineffective.
