French Speaking and Listening Activity Taboo Game Classic #1 Communication Orale

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

If you are looking for an engaging French vocabulary game so your French students, beginners or intermediate, can learn and have fun at the same time, your students will thank you and will enjoy playing this original classic Taboo game with 100 cards.

A French only version is included.

This classic game is simple to modify and use both with beginners French students and advanced French students. I've used Taboo games in the classroom for years and it's always a hit. I've made my own cards with carefully chosen taboo words!

In this classic version of the game there is no particular vocabulary theme. 100 French-English cards are included.

EXPECT YOUR STUDENTS TO:

  • have loads of fun
  • learn new French words
  • review vocabulary
  • make sentences and ask questions in French

Step 1

  • Print the cards, cut them and laminate
  • Use the file for projecting on a tablet you can pass around as a class activity
  • Print or study ahead of time using the vocabulary list provided

Step 2

Beginner students should be allowed to use the TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.

  • Make teams of 2 or 3 students
  • Set a guessing time, 2 or 3 minutes or alternate turns
  • One team names a first reader the opposing team a checker - whose role is to make sure no taboo words are used.
  • The reader tries to have his teammates guess the word at the top without using the taboo words. For beginners you can choose to let them use the taboo words
  • They score a point for each word guessed

Try out a free full version Taboo Game - Pays et Villes

French Taboo Games Growing Bundle

Classic French Taboo Games Bundle - 3 Versions

83 Low-Intermediate French Conversation Starter and Speaking Prompt Cards

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

Use this set of intermediate French conversation prompt cards to get even your most timid students speaking to each other in French. These 83 question cards are terrific for discussion and journal writing prompts and they span 13 different themes:

➤ les langues

➤ le travail

➤ les animaux

➤ la santé

➤ ta région

➤ le transport

➤ les livres

➤ qu’est-ce que tu préférerais…

➤ le voyage

➤ les tâches ménagères

➤ la nourriture

➤ le shopping et les courses

➤ le sport

This activity is perfect for small groups. Use these cards as a review and vocabulary builder with French students at the intermediate to intermediate high level. An easy to project PDF in color with only one card per page is included in case you want to work on the questions as a class without printing and cutting out the cards.

Included:

  • 83 question cards
  • Ways to use these cards
  • Easy to project PDF file (one card per page)

There are many ways you can use this set of 83 speaking cards:

➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions.

➤ Use as a warm-up French speaking activity or ice breaker with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box.

➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out their answers including reasons for their preferences.

➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer in French.

➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards.

➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer the question. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question.

➤ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move.

➤ Use the cards as a getting to know you activity or ice breaker at the beginning of the year or at a French club event.

➤ Great resource for French tutoring sessions.

What teachers are saying about these conversation cards:

I love these! Thank you so much for putting these together. Printed and put on rings they are a great filler for any time.

Tu m'as sauvé beaucoup de temps! C'est exactement ce que je cherchais pour stimuler la conversation parmi mes élèves.

I used these conversation started for a French Café inspired conversation block, and they worked wonderfully! I set up checkered table cloths and had a few cards on each table for students to discuss. The topics were varied, yet also simple enough for elementary students to share their thoughts and opinions!
