$5 - $10 12th Grade Social Studies & History Lesson

It is important that our student have fun as they are learning! Implement this group cooperating activity as a means of teaching your students the cultural, geographical, governmental and economics of South America. This scavenger hunt has a twist as it is not only a hunt, but also a game all in one. This lesson can be modified to only be used as a scavenger hunt if needed.

The goal of the game is to earn the most points without answering the same questions twice. Students will take turns rolling die to determine which question they will attempt to answer. They will be given 60 seconds and resources to help in determining the answer if they do not already know it. Students will have a blast! Before you know it, class will be over and they will have gained/reviewed a wealth of knowledge.

In this product, students will learn about the 19th Amendment, what it is, the timeline as to how the 19th Amendment was put into effect and just how long it took. Information about the process it took and how it was rejected by different parts of the government is shared ranging from 1878 to the November 1920 election, what the women's suffrage movement was, who was involved, and what they did, President Woodrow Wilson, Harry Burn, Senator Aaron A. Sargent, Ellen Clark Sargent, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony and the role that each of them had in the passing of the 19th Amendment, students will learn about Congress - the Senate and the House of Representatives, and will briefly learn about the 3 Branches of Government to help students understand which branch helped pass the 19th Amendment, students will briefly learn about who was involved in World War I and what happened at the end of World War I, why women became involved in World War I, what their roles were in World War I, what jobs women had during this time, and how this lead to the 19th Amendment. Students will also learn about how the 19th Amendment in 1869 was different from 1920 and why, how the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was important as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, students will also learn about when women could vote in 15 states from 1869 - 1918, and the first states to ratify the 19 Amendment.

What a fun way to learn how to read a time zone map! If you are doing this at the beginning of the year, it's probably football season, too. Your students will have fun playing football while learning how to read a time zone map. Your students won't feel like they are learning through all the fun! My students love this game!

This is football with a twist and modified for time limitations. Please always feel free to modify our lessons to meet the needs of your students and time restrictions. Enjoy!

OBJECTIVES:

(1) The learner will become familiar with a 24-hour (universal) clock.

(2) The learner will learn and use the meanings of a.m. and p.m. appropriately.

(3) The learner will review the Eastern and Western Hemispheres and will understand when traveling west, one subtracts time, and when traveling east, one adds time.

(3) The learner will become familiar with reading a time zone map.

(4) The learner will demonstrate an understanding of time zone changes

by calculating the time at different degrees of longitude.

Why do maps change? How do boundaries change?

There are may political, economic, and social factors that reshape our world and our maps. Students will participate in the introductory PowerPoint presentation and will visit historical events that have shaped our world and today's maps. This is a great lesson to incorporate into your maps unit. It goes beyond the basics and broadens the students' scope of understanding.

A study of China's agricultural and environmental problems. Encourages higher-level thinking skills for problem-solving. Can be used in Geography, Social Studies, and World History. Students will have fun solving problems in China! Students get to research and choose which problem China is facing providing students autonomy in their learning. Need a creative way for your students to connect, understand, retain information, and have FUN learning about a country's people, culture, landforms, strengths, weaknesses, history, future, etc.? This is the lesson for you. It is highly flexible and can be used from grades 6th through 12th, as well as in higher education. I encourage you to modify the lesson to meet the needs of your students.

This lesson can be used if you are specifically studying one country as a class or if you are focusing on a continent. If a continent, you may allow students to choose the country they would like to study.

A PowerPoint is included to assist in the instruction of using anatomy to study and discuss a country. Example: Eyes: what can be seen in the country? This is a great way to get students moving, collaborating and learning about Latin America Geography! This lesson/activity encourage students to develop higher-level thinking skills. The more they practice, the better their thinking strategies will become.

Students will complete a K-W-L Chart prior to the lesson while watching a suggested Intro video to peak their interest.

Students will work in teams and will rotate around (like a carousel) from one picture to another, spending 1-2 minutes at each and brainstorming the answers to the questions on each. Students will write their ideas on the chart paper at each station. Allow students add additional knowledge/terms to the chart if they wish. This will act as an extension of their learning.

Students will develop a one sentence summary of the main ideas and present it to the class. Students will be given blank maps to fill in the ideas presented as a listening/comprehension activity.

This is a great way to get your students excited about studying a historical or current figure. Students use research and inference skills to create a resume for a historical or current figure. The example given is Mao Zedong's Resume'. Students will create an objective as to what job the character is applying. The character's education, work experience, etc. will be included. This will enhance the student's comprehension of who the character is and/or was.

Although this lesson plan is written specifically for World History, character maps can be used at antime that you are studying a character or historical individual. This lesson plan is easy to modify for language arts, English, reading, social studies, science, and other content areas. It is easy to use and can be included in your lesson plans time and time again.
