Spain Digital Escape Room in both English AND Spanish versions

By Frenchified

Make learning about Spain interesting with this no-prep digital escape game.  The game includes access to a website where your students will hunt for the keys to unlock a set of locks.  Students will need to read the clues very carefully and watch videos, visit websites, and read texts to find the information they need to win the game.  Very easy to use - just send your students to the website and let them work!  Students can play individually or in teams.

This game is about the country of Spain and some interesting historical and tourist sites. Students will learn about the Barcelona, Pamplona, Valencia, Granada and Segovia. There are two versions of the game - one in English (for general culture and lower level Spanish classes) and one in Spanish (clues and resources are in Spanish - challenging, meant for upper levels and heritage speakers).

Digital escape games are a fun way to start a unit, or to review at the end of a unit.  They can also be used to learn about a cultural or historical event.  This game will have your students reading carefully and paying attention to the smallest details in order to complete the challenge and unlock the locks.

This item includes:

  • Access to a website where your students can play the game
  • Complete teacher's guide to playing the game
  • Answer key so you can help students if they get stuck!

Your students will enjoy learning without even realizing that they are learning!  The challenging game format will get them excited about finding the code to unlock each lock - and the format of the clues for each lock will have them paying close attention - there's no way to solve the puzzles  without being 100% focused!

Topics in this game include:

  • Barcelona
  • Pamplona
  • Valencia
  • Granada
  • Segovia

Prep is very easy - you just need to share the website URL with your students.  You may want to test the site before you use it, just to make sure nothing is blocked by your district.  As some of the clues can be challenging to unlock, you may choose to help your students with the trickier ones.  With the teacher guide, you will have the answer key - so you can help guide students towards the correct answer by giving them hints, or if you have limited time, you can adjust the game by reducing the number of locks they need to unlock - just give them the answer(s) to help the activity fit your time constraints.

Why Learn Another Language Scavenger Hunt Game for Spanish, French, Italian

By Specialty Spanish

Need a fun way to start the year in World Language class?  How about a team-building  game!  This reading about why students should learn another language goes from dull to exciting as students work together and move around the room to solve a mystery!  This is a simple “print and go” with no work for the teacher!  This is a great way to get the year started with new students, or to provide motivation when you see interest and effort waning.  This activity is in English, and can be used by any World Language class!

All World Language teachers want to motivate and encourage our students, and help them see the value of becoming proficient in the language they’re studying. This story gives 10 teen-friendly reasons why it’s so beneficial to prioritize learning a new language!

The story revolves around two teens trying to decide what classes to take.  Your students play the role of the mystery solvers.  They have to read all 10 parts of the story to figure out the answer to the final question;  what will the students grow up to be in their career?   While your students read the story parts, they are looking for “code words” in the story.  Students record the code words on a special answer sheet that will eventually lead them to solving the mystery of teens’  future career.  It’s so much fun!

After, you can decide which of the 4 follow-up activities you want to do with your students.  There are 4; a True or False Activity to check for basic comprehension, a “tell me in your own words” summary activity, an opportunity to work with a group and write a story about a adventure the teens will have in their career (which can be done in the TL),  and an activity where they can explore possible careers for bilingual people.   Answer key to the True/False is also included.  Best of all?  If there’s something you’d like to change for your students, you are free to edit!

Who can use this product?

  • Students taking a World Language
  • Middle or High School

How can I use this product?

  • Print out the reading cards (10)
  • Hang them up around your room
  • Print and copy the answer sheet
  • Let students loose to solve the crime!
  • Assign follow-up activities if you wish

What’s included in this product?

Spanish Escape Room Visit Major Sites of Spain To Catch the Soccer Thieves

By Specialty Spanish

Need to motivate your Spanish students?  Want to incorporate more REAL culture into your classes? Need them to work together?  This digital escape room is a FUN way to do both!  Students must watch and read the Google slides and also do some research of their own to help solve a crime. Students can complete this challenge in school or digitally from home! No-prep fun activity for ALL of your classes!

Some important objects have been stolen from the Soccer Museum at Camp Nou in Barcelona.  Help the police chase down the thieves as you travel around Spain!  To find the next clue, students must answer cultural questions about Spain.  From those answers, they must figure out codes that will open digital locks (in a google form).  Students get the next set of pictures and clues after each lock is opened!

This Escape Room is suitable for all middle and high school students.  It focuses on famous places and interesting cultural details, not on grammar.  This resource comes in a Spanish version appropriate for students in Year 3 and up, and also an English version for Novice Spanish students or any student interested in Spanish culture!  It’s a great way to get students talking to each other at the beginning of the year, or a fun way to wrap up a school year too! AP Spanish The Accidental Twins Movie Guide and 4 Follow Up Activities

By Specialty Spanish

Need a movie guide for The Accidental Twins?  If you teach AP Spanish, this documentary goes perfectly with Unit 2, which examines Identity.  This bundle includes a movie guide of 57 questions in both Spanish and English as well as 4 follow up activities. There is a graphic organizer for the characters, a class discussion activity, a personal reflection activity and an assessment with rubric.  Use them all, or mix and match to suit your class’s needs!

The Accidental Twins is a documentary on Netflix that chronicles the story of 2 sets of twins from Colombia.  One brother from each family was mixed up and went home from the hospital with the wrong family.  When these babies are 25 years old, their mix up is discovered.  It’s a fascinating story about one’s identity, what role genetics vs environment plays in a person’s life, and the emotions involved with the real people that this happened to.

You can play this documentary in Spanish or English, and subtitles are available.  I recommend playing it in Spanish with Spanish subtitles on.  It is 1 hour and 20 minutes long.

Who can use this product?

  • AP Spanish students
  • Advanced Spanish students

How can I use this product?

  • Start with the introduction and trailer.
  • Show the movie in parts during class, and ask students to fill out the questions as they watch.
  • Choose from the 4 follow up activities to explore the themes of the documentary and check for comprehension.

What’s included in this product?

  • Teacher notes for how to use this bundle of activities
  • Student introduction (includes important vocab, character and plot introduction)
  • Student viewing guide (Spanish or English versions) 57 questions
  • Answer key (Spanish and English)

AP Spanish Summer Homework Assignment Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking

By Specialty Spanish

Need a summer homework assignment for your incoming AP Spanish*®* students? Look no further- this Google Doc assignment is already done for you! Digital or printable, this summer homework has everything you need. Students will read, listen, write and then speak when school starts again! Students will have guided choices about what they choose to read and listen to!

There are very clear, specific instructions for each part, and they are written in English to avoid any misunderstandings over the summer. Also included in this resource is the rubric to grade the writing and speaking portions, a graphic organizer for students to use to help them be sure they have completed each part, and a note-taking sheet for the listening section.

This assignment will keep students using their Spanish over the summer without expecting too much time on homework in the summer months. It will also give teachers a way to assess where each student is in their speaking and writing skills at the beginning of the school year! Best of all- this assignment, once it's yours, can be edited and customized to suite your preferences and your students' needs! Breathe easy as your finish your school year!

Who can use this product?

  • Students who are planning to take the AP Spanish Language and Culture_®_ course in the coming school year

How can I use this product?

  • I recommend asking your colleagues to distribute this assignment to incoming AP Spanish students at least a week before the end of the school year to give students time to read it over, think about it and ask questions.
  • Be sure students understand what is expected and when their summer work is due. I always say that it's due on the first day of school, but often I will allow students to peer edit or ask last minute questions on the first or second day of school.
  • By the 3rd day of a new school year, I put students into groups of about 4. I sit with a group and grade their oral presentations as they say them. The other groups are working on different assignments. I space out how many groups per day I listen to based on 1) what kind of schedule we have (we have had several in the past few years due to Covid and other factors!) and 2) spending at least some time each day with my whole class so I can establish routines and get to know them.
  • I ask students to report to their small groups because it eases anxiety for students who don't know me or their classmates well, and who are worried about their ability to speak in Spanish and about their first grade for AP Spanish.
  • Teachers can choose to grade the speaking and writing for a formal grade or just use their performance as a baseline for the year.

What's included in this product?

  • Teacher Notes
  • Student instructions for an AP Summer Assignment- written in English
  • Instructions for how to complete a reading (with student choice), a listening (with student choice) and a writing assignment.
  • Instructions on how to prepare an oral presentation about what they listened to
  • Supports for students who need them
  • Information on how to document words they looked up
  • Graphic organizer for all parts for the students
  • Rubric for grading the written and oral presentation parts
  • Suggestions for good print and on-line dictionaries
  • This assignment is fully customizable and can be edited to suite your students' needs!
