Shakespeare Valentine's Day Lesson Plan
By Language Arts Excellence
Any teacher of middle or high school students knows that emotions tend to run wild on Valentine's Day, and instead of fighting it, this lesson on Shakespearean language will help you to take advantage of the birds and the bees buzzing around in your classroom!
This full-length lesson plan revolves around Shakespeare's mastery of the English language with an emphasis on his knack for coming up with the most compassionate of compliments and scathing of insults. Through a non-intimidating approach, students will have the opportunity to do a little bit of acting and make connections to modern day as they explore Shakespeare's language of love and hate. I am always astounded by the level of maturity of the discussion that arises from this activity as students discuss what makes a compliment or insult particularly effective and from whom it means the most. This is sure to be a lesson that you will use again and again on February 14th.
Product includes:
Though this product is ideal for use on Valentine's Day, it really can be used all year long. I tend to save it for the day prior to school vacation. I hope that your students get a kick out of indulging in their heightened emotions for this lesson.

Spread kindness and build classroom community with these adorable kindness cards! This product features a set of 30 unique "Caught Being Kind!" cards that you can use to promote kindness within your classroom and school. Each card contains a quote about kindness from famous figures like Anne Frank, Mother Teresa, and Mark Twain. I keep these in a jar on my desk and use them any time I see a student do a small act of kindness for another. Over time, I noticed that my eighth graders were actually collecting them and keeping them in their binders to show their parents. Especially when used discreetly, these cards reinforce good values and make the whole community a little kinder, one student at a time. I introduce these cards on the first day of school and use them all year long and hope that they will aid in making your classroom a little kinder too! __________________________________________________________________________ Surround your students with kindness with these kindness quote posters by Language Arts Excellence: Kindness Quote Posters ___________________________________________________________________________ ⭐Click to Follow Language Arts Excellence⭐

Valentine's Day Collaborative Writing Activity
By Language Arts Excellence
Celebrate Valentine's Day with this engaging communal story-telling activity!
This product features a communal story-telling activity in which students practice using Freytag's Pyramid plot structure in their own narrative writing. In this activity, each student begins a story inspired by a unique Valentine's Day-inspired photograph. They are prompted to write the exposition of the tale by introducing the setting and main characters. After the allotted amount of time, the story is then passed to another student who is prompted to write the inciting incident or conflict and begin to detail the rising action. The paper is passed from student to student twice more until the story is resolved. When the stories are finished, the worksheet is returned to the original student who can then make edits and is responsible for producing a final draft.
With this intrinsically engaging activity, each student has the chance to tap into their creativity while applying knowledge of the 7 steps of Freytag's Pyramid. It is a great activity to introduce or reinforce the plot diagram and is perfect for a Friday, a substitute plan, or simply for when students need a creative break without sacrificing learning and hard work. While ideal for Valentine's Day, it can be used at any time of the year!

20 Questions Game - French Valentine's Day - La Saint Valentin
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
Looking for a fun game to get your students speaking French? Use this game to have students practice forming questions and speaking French using vocabulary for Valentine's Day.
Included:
French and English version
French only version
Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the game and do a whole class activity.
This game includes 40 words. Many of the words will be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice forming questions, but also to build vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words.
One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word.
EST-CE QUE…….
… tu es une personne?
… tu es un animal?
… tu es un minéral?
… tu es un endroit?
… tu es un aliment?
… tu es une plante?
… tu es un objet?
The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: OUI - NON - PARFOIS - RAREMENT - GÉNÉRALEMENT - PEUT-ÊTRE - CELA DÉPEND - PROBABLEMENT
Alternative game play:
To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. Instead of asking questions about the secret word, other students listen to the description and guess it.
