This Life Skills lesson is tailored for older special education students with special needs who are preparing for the workforce. It covers four main job types—Full-Time, Part-Time, Seasonal, and Per Diem—and explores the pros and cons of each, such as stability, flexibility, and benefits. Through practical examples and reflective questions, students will think about their own occupation preferences. This occupations lesson provides essential vocational training to help students make informed choices as they step into employment.

The resource includes 42 slides designed to help students understand the differences between Full-Time, Part-Time, Per Diem, and Seasonal work. It features 28 multiple-choice prompts and 20 fill-in-the-blank exercises that reinforce key concepts. Additionally, 16 example jobs are provided, asking students to categorize each job type. This is a great activity for students to do at the beginning of your Fashion Designer Unit. I like to use it as the first step in my Fashion Designer Research Project.

About this Activity

• Student will research various types of information about a particular Fashion Designer.
• The instructions allow them to chose a Fashion Designer of their choice but it needs to be approved by you so that they get a little bit of freedom but your can make sure that who they chose is an appropriate Fashion Designer for research.

This project is great for your fashion design students in your entry level class. I usually give my students 10 class days to complete whatever choice they would like to work on from the list. Feel free to give your students whatever timeline fits your lesson plan. I like giving the students choices in case there are students who would like to sketch instead of sewing. No matter what project they choose they are still required to type a paper that discusses the elements and principles of design. Each project has a different set of elements and principles of design that are required for the paper since sometimes it is easier to include certain ones in sewing projects versus sketches.

Prior Knowledge needed:

This project assumes that your class has covered the elements and principles of design but if you have not then feel free to omit that part of the project.

This product is great for distance learning utilizing Google Classroom or Gmail accounts. This resource is also great for schools and districts pushing for more technology use during school closure. These forms are great to help you keep track of student progress for data collection.

This resource is designed to help students explore different vocations and expose students to a variety of everyday jobs. 5 Google Forms include readings that teach and explain different jobs and the steps required to work in the role. Each reading also includes 10 - 12 questions to asses student learning and understanding. 1 Google Form reviews the knowledge learned and has students practice differentiating between jobs. These Google Forms also help keep an inventory on students vocational interests. There is also a Google Slides presentation with each of the readings available in a larger format. This unit has lengthier readings that include more information, details with harder vocabulary than the previous units.

Life Skills are an important part of our student’s education. Life and Work Skills: Hardware Store Tools Boom Cards provide 3 levels of instruction so that your students can become familiar with tools found in a hardware store and used in the home. These skills will assist your students in becoming more independent in their daily life. This is a Fashion History Magazine Project that is perfect for high school students in any class that covers fashion history. This is a great alternative option to the regular research paper assignment. This project gives students more creativity to create and design using a variety of magazine components. They are instructed to create a magazine article, sketch fashion garments, create a mood board as well as design a magazine advertisement for a product from their time period. This product also includes a rubric for students.

Learn to sort mail just like Postal Workers! Students practice job, pre-vocational, and life skills by reading the last name on an envelope and sorting the mail into the correct mailbox.
