There are many ways you can use this set of cards: ➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions. ➤ Project the pdf file in class to work in group or with your whole class and avoid printing. ➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity with a conversation partner. In this product, students will review winter vocabulary words. Students will be provided with 12 winter picture cards that they can cut out. Students will be given two different forms of the picture cards - one with the name of each picture card and one without. Once students cut out the picture cards, they will follow the directions on each page of the winter prepositions booklet and glue the pictures where they belong. Students will then make up a sentence using each preposition. The product can be cut and made into a smaller pocket booklet. This product can also be laminated and Velcro can be used to attach each of the 12 picture cards so it can be used over again.

How does it work?

Your students are snowed in your classroom until they solve 5 Language Arts skills-based tasks about winter!

• MLA All Day: In the first task, students must fill in an MLA Works Cited Page with fictional winter sources (like "Snowflakes on Eyelashes" by Julie Andrews). Once completed correctly, letters within the sources will reveal the first code.
• Winter Wonders: In the second task, students will read 6 fun facts about winter. They must identify which of 6 comma rules each fact employs. When comma cards are matched correctly with the facts, shaded boxes reveal their second code.
• Figuratively Frozen: In the third task, students identify the figurative language devices used in excerpts from beautiful winter poems (like Winter's Artist by Suzanne Bates). Shaded letters in the correct answers form the third code.
• Frost's Woods: In the fourth task, students must perform a close reading of Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost, the perfect poem to study on a blustery day. Letters of the multiple choice question answers following the poem reveal their fourth code.
• Encrypted Message: In the final task, students must solve an encrypted message using the codes and clues from the first four tasks. The message is a provocative quote about winter by French philosopher, Albert Camus. Once they bring that to you, they may escape their snowed-in classroom!

Looking for a GAME that will make SPEAKING FUN in Spanish class?  This winter-themed snowball speaking activity will get students using their Spanish creatively!  This low-prep game, called Snowball Fight, will have students competing to tell stories about a winter day! Easy to differentiate and scaffold with the included teacher instructions and vocab list!

How to play:

-Students choose snowballs (each snowball has a winter-related word)

-Students must create a story with the words on the snowballs, forcing them to think on their feet and create a logical story with random words!

The variations of this game are endless and you can play it all winter long! 

❄have students choose their own snowballs or

❅have their opponent pick for them!

❆give students as much time as they need to tell their story or

❄set a time limit.  Whoever used more snowballs wins!

❅have students pick snowballs one at a time instead of all at once
