DIRECTIONS FOR USE

WORKSHEETS

No-Prep, just print and go. You can use just the cut and paste pages or also pass out the additional sentence writing page that matches. The second page can also be used for early finishers. The ABC cut and paste worksheet has the alphabet listed as a reference. The sentences page has an editing checklist on it.

LITERACY CENTER

Cut apart the 26 picture/word cards and place in center. Print one or both recording sheets and place in center. Students choose 6 picture/word cards, copy those 6 words onto their cut and paste sheet, then complete their worksheet. If you place the second worksheet at the station, then students will choose 4 of their words to practice writing sentences with.

This Bundle of #7 different fall-themed file folder games will keep your young learners busy all season long! There is a variety of fall-themed games. Some of them being...Apples, Leaves, Pumpkins, Turkeys and so much more. Below is a list of the file folder games included and a little more info on each one.

1. Apple Count & Match Game: This activity is perfect for learning numbers as well as practicing one-to-one correspondence. The #2 pages that you attach to the file folder have baskets with numbers 1-10 on them. There are also #2 pages of apple flashcards. Each flashcard has different amounts of apples 1-10 on them. Have your students count the number of apples on each flashcard and then match it to the correct number basket.

2. Leaf-Themed Shape Matching Game: There are #10 different shapes included in this activity. The #2 pages that you attach to the file folder have dots in the middle of each shape where you can attach a velcro dot to it. You can then attach a velcro dot to the opposite side of the leaf flashcards in order to make the matching process easier. This is a great activity for your young learners to practice matching and saying their shapes.

3. Fall Leaf Color Matching Game: This game is a fun color-matching activity for your little learners. Each leaf is a different color. Have your students practice saying and matching each color together.

4. Pumpkin Letter Match Game: This activity has both Uppercase and lowercase letters and is a perfect activity for your young learners to practice matching the correct letters together. You should attach the #2 pages of pumpkins (Uppercase letters) to the file folder and then cut out the #1 page of pumpkin seeds (lowercase letters). I would attach a velcro dot at the top of each pumpkin and then on the back of each pumpkin seed in order to make the letter matching process easier for your students.

- Turkey Shape & Color Matching Game: This game is a perfect way to incorporate shape and color matching practice in a fun hands on way. There is #2 pages with #5 different shapes/colors on them. You will attach these #2 pages to the file folder and then cut out the #10 different turkey shape/color flashcards with the borders around each one. Your students will practice identifying and matching each shape/color together.

- Turkey Count & Match: This game is a great way for your students to practice one-to-one correspondence as well as number recognition. You will attach the turkey pages with numbers 1-10 on them to the file folder. Once that is done cut out and laminate the turkeys with different amounts of dots on them. These will be the number flashcards. Your students will count how many dots are on each flashcard and then attach it to the correct number on the file folder game.

- Pumpkin Pie Letter Match Game: This game is a fun way to incorporate Uppercase & lowercase letter matching practice. You will attach the Uppercase Letters (Pumpkin Pies) to the file folder and then cut out the whip cream (lowercase letters). Your students will have fun putting "whip cream" on each slice of pumpkin pie while matching the correct Uppercase and lowercase letters together.

The unit can be followed chapter by chapter, with no extra preparation or planning required by the teacher. Follow-up activities include a comprehension follow up and one to three extra literacy task for each chapter. The extra activities allow for students to demonstrate their understanding through tasks that require them to synthesise, analyse and apply, drawing from their understanding of the story.

The responses in the unit have been planned and arranged so that your students will practise a wide range of comprehension strategies in context. It has been designed to promote thinking and comprehension. Tasks can be completed independently, collaboratively or alongside a teacher. The unit has been planned so that over the course of the book, students will become familiar with and well-practised in using comprehension strategies to make meaning from text.

• Book response - creative responses, critical thinking, partner discussion response, written responses.
• Vocabulary - a focus on vocabulary words in context, word work.
• Applying and Synthesising
• Research - relevant to the story and children's interests
• Written tasks - using a range of genres as relevant to the story
• Creative Thinking - engaging activities allowing student to apply their own knowledge and themes from the story to be creative.
• Critical Thinking - using themes from the story to consider wider issues

All activities have been designed with student engagement at the forefront. In responding to the book, students will be required to think both within and beyond the text. Children learn best when they are having fun! Even better that they are learning the love of books at the same time!
