Using these classic books, teach your students about quarter rest! Sing/chant/play along with the rhymes I wrote for the books and add in rhythm sticks for fun! Then use the beat charts and worksheets to reinforce decoding skills as well as teach students to listen and recognize rests as well as practice writing them. "Bear's New Friend" and "Bear Feels Scared" also have recorder and barred instrument parts that would be fun for the older grades. "Bear Can't Sleep" has an ostinato part as well. Use this lesson to have the children comfort the bear that the tooth will come out! Based on this popular book, have the children chant or sing to a bear puppet that it will all be okay.
