I designed this 5-page activity for my students to engage with during the Fall or at the start of the year, focusing on the Social Studies Citizenship unit. Students will read various scenarios and determine whether each one exemplifies good citizenship. This activity is perfect for reinforcing rules and character traits at the beginning of the year. I intend to use it as an independent task after a few days of instruction on citizenship. It can also serve as a graded assessment, quiz, or a follow-up activity after a mini-lesson on rules or citizenship. How it Works

1. Decide if you want students to work independently, with a partner, or in groups. Or have students work alone and then share answers in a class discussion.
2. Students read each situation, deciding whether the child in the scenario made a good or poor choice. This process encourages critical thinking and reflection on social behaviors.
3. For good choices, students explain why the decision was positive. For poor choices, students propose alternative ways to handle the situation, sparking meaningful discussions around social skills and empathy.

• Oliver's Muddy Tracks: Oliver was outside playing in mud puddles. When he came in, he tracked mud across the kitchen floor that his mother had just cleaned.

• Kenzie's Art Apology: Kenzie accidentally steps on another student’s art project, causing a small tear. She immediately apologizes and asks if she can help to fix it.

• Caleb's Cleanup Pretense: After the springtime craft, the art teacher asks everyone to clean up their areas. Caleb pretends to be busy, but he doesn’t clean anything.
