Behavior think sheets can be a powerful emotional regulation tool for elementary-aged students. Anger regulation, calming strategies, coping skills, and self-regulation tools are much more effective if students are in a calm state when they try to utilize their skills.

Think time allows children a safe outlet to bounce around ideas of what they did, where they went wrong, and what they are going to do about it. This is a very effective coping skill that we should instill in our young people as early as possible. This pack of 20 Social Skills Scenario Task Cards and Worksheets highlight real-life social scenarios and situations centered around APOLOGIZING and can be used to help young "kiddos" of all levels and abilities (in grades 2-4) to practice and build social skills. These highly relevant scenarios expose young learners to skills they need to interact with others effectively, forge positive relationships, improve social skills and behavior, and most importantly, build confidence in managing situations and apologizing when necessary.

WORKSHEETS

The Social Skills Scenario Worksheets contain the same scenarios in the Task Cards. There are two questions on each worksheet (for each scenario). Students are asked to read the scenario and think and write about how each person (in the scenario) should handle the situation/problem. It is important for students to consider both perspectives and determine how both individuals can appropriately respond to the situation presented. They are also asked the "why" question to help them reflect about why these actions are appropriate.

Here's an example:

Scenario:

During lunch time, you bump into Lily. She drops her lunch on the floor.

Questions:

1. What should you do or say to Lily in this situation?

2. How should Lily handle this situation and why?

TASK CARDS

The Task Cards come in 4 different formats: B&W with questions, B&W without questions, Brown with questions, and Brown without questions. You can print them out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate them. You may also organize them in a binder ring and use in small groups.

How/When To Use Scenario Task Cards

• Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate appropriate responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to show how skills are used improperly and then asking the 'audience' to help reenact properly. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.

• Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.

• Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skit for the class.

• Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios.

• Discussion: Students can discuss the Social Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class. They can discuss things like “What would you do?”, “Why would you do that?”, and “What are some other options you could consider?”

Social stories are a tool used by parents and educators that can help kids, teens, and adults with Autism and other Developmental Disorders understand what will be coming up in their day, reduce anxiety, and learn rules and social cues.

To use these social story, read through the stories together each day and reinforce using the included visuals. This story can be used as a whole class lesson, or with individual students who need some additional support.

This Rules I Follow at School social story can be used with students who are learning the rules and routines at school. It includes images that are appropriate for students of all ages.

The Rules I Follow at School Social Story includes:

• Social story about rules to follow at school that can be used at school or home.
• Matching visuals that can be used to reinforce rules. These can be printed, laminated, and placed on a lanyard ring for ease of use.
• Cards for students to reinforce the rules.
• AAC sentences on each page.
• Visuals that are appropriate for students of all ages, including older students and adults.

This Visual Social Story - When I Feel Angry at School can be used by parents and educators to students with Autism and other developmental disorders. To use this social story, read through the story together each day when the student is calm. Practice calming strategies using the bonus calm strips included with this set.
