WHY?

It’s best to introduce subtraction with regrouping using concrete manipulatives related to place value such as base 10 blocks. Using base 10 blocks is an effective way to support students in developing a conceptual understanding of subtraction because they are able to see the value of each digit in the number. This visual model helps students understand the regrouping process of exchanging 1 ten for 10 ones or 1 hundred for 10 tens.

The slides are designed for students to simultaneously model subtraction equations with base 10 blocks and the standard algorithm. Building a correlation between the equation and the physical model will help students build a strong foundation for subtraction as they move on to more advanced skills.

Celebrate the 50th Day of School with this would you rather game! Perfect as a no-prep 50th day party game, brain break, icebreaker, morning meeting activity, discussion starters, writing prompts or debate prompts. This is great for kindergarten, first grade, second grade, third grade and fourth grade students.

Students will review line plots, making a table, making a pictograph, making a bar graph, and reading graphs with the use of this packet. Students will also collect and organize data with each of these graphs. This packet can be used as a homework assignment, in-class assignment, or test review and test.

This is a math mystery that is specifically aligned to the 3rd grade Engage NY and Eureka math module 4 on area. This resource would also be a great for review of area for 4th grade students prior to the state test. This resource includes a scenario, a suspect list, 5 clues that students will solve to find the culprit and answers keys to all pages. Area concepts practiced in this are: determining multiplying length x width, determining area using tiling, finding the missing side length, find area of irregular shapes by decomposing rectangles and area word problems.

This resource would be great to use as a review before the end of module assessment, before state tests, as a math lesson to leave for a substitute teacher, uses individual clues as daily center work over the course of a week, etc.

My students absolutely love doing these! They especially love predicting who the culprit is prior to beginning the clues to see if they could guess it correctly!

Fractions represent the parts of a whole or collection of objects. A fraction has two parts. The number on the top of the line is called the numerator. It tells how many equal parts of the whole or collection are taken.  The number below the line is called the denominator.  It shows the total number of equal parts the whole is divided into or the total number of the same objects in a collection. When the whole is divided into equal parts, the number of parts we take makes up a fraction. If a cake is divided into eight equal pieces and one piece of the cake is placed on a plate, then each plate is said to have 1/8 of the cake.

Students need to know how to sort 2d shapes and identify the name of each figure. I made a polygon family tree that groups polygons into families and subgroups. This helps kids see the relationships more clearly without using arrows.

This resource is well organized and it visually shows the relationships between the multiple different classifications of the polygons, triangles and quadrilaterals. It is a must have to all kinds of learners.
