This is a fun and silly St. Patrick's Day activity to get your students writing. They can read the poem Five Crazy Leprechauns and then create their own little poem. There is a page that lays out the way to write the poem. Students will need to know what an adjective and verb is. If you have older students and want to extend it for them print the 'Create your own Leprechaun Poem' table twice and have the students start at 10 leprechauns. You can choose whether your students have to rhyme or if it is a free style poem. There are so many ways you can use this in the classroom. Included is also a cute page for them to write their own poem on.

Writing a Ballad Stanza Poem can be a fun and interesting project for your students. Students will learn what a stanza and a verse are, what poems are called when they have a different amount of lines. Students will also learn what is included in a ballad stanza poem and which lines rhyme. How can I incorporate poetry into my daily/weekly lessons? You may have asked yourself this question. Solid Read Alouds is the answer! Solid Read Alouds connect poetry to your classroom read aloud. Solid Read Alouds not only connect poetry but enhance your curriculum with monthly themes and national observance days. The Sundae Day Read Aloud is designed for a daily one week time period. However, the unit can easily be stretched into two weeks or incorporated into a writing workshop. The read aloud will include: poetry, how to writing, and nonfiction selection. The unit also includes: comprehension work, anchor chart ideas and printables, how to writing activity and penmanship work. This product is designed to enhance your curriculum, incorporate poetry, and infuse common core state standards into your teaching. The Solid Read Aloud product can easily be completed in approximately a daily 15-minute mini lesson.

1.      Same Picture Four Settings- Students are given a partial character drawing and asked to draw that character in four different settings. There are two ways to complete this assignment. I have provided a list of possible settings to draw out (students would pick these out of a hat/bowl, OR they could choose four from the list to use).

2.      Describe the Setting-Five different pictures are given. You can give it to students at random or give it to all five students. Their instructions are to (using complete sentences) describe the setting.

3.      Setting for any book- Use this chart to help students fill out their knowledge of the setting of any book.
