Earth Day Pledge Writing Craft
By Miss Yous Clues and Resources
This is an Earth Day themed writing craft. First, students read through the page of statements and pick 1-2 that they promise to do to help Earth. Then, they write their statement(s) on the circle page that says "My Earth Day Pledge" and draw a picture depicting that on the following circle page that says "Draw a picture of your Earth Day pledge below." Afterward, the student will need to cut out all three circles on the dotted lines. Lastly, the three pages get glued together to complete the writing craft. This creates a cute writing craft that would be adorable to hang up in the hallways, in your classroom, on a bulletin board or to send home for parents to see.
Math Mystery- Case of the Trash Troubles (Metric Conversions)
By Miss Yous Clues and Resources
This is a math mystery that is specifically aligned to the 4th grade Engage NY and Eureka math module 2 on metric conversions. This resource would also be a great for review of area for 4th grade students prior to the state test. This resource includes a scenario, a suspect list, 5 clues that students will solve to find the culprit and answers keys to all pages. Conversions practiced in this are: converting units, adding and subtracting metric units, comparing unlike units, adding or subtracting mixed units and converting to the smaller units.
This resource would be great to use as a review before the end of module assessment, before state tests, on the days leading up to a school break so new materials isn't being introduced yet, as a math lesson to leave for a substitute teacher, use individual clues as daily center work over the course of a week, etc. This resource also has an Earth Day theme with the recycling, anti trash themes occurring in the storyline and suspect list.
My students absolutely love doing these! They especially love predicting who the culprit is prior to beginning the clues to see if they could guess it correctly!

Earth Day close reading passage and mini-book - Ready to Recycle
By Sassycat Corner
Celebrate Earth Day with this 2 page reading passage and it's matching Foldable Mini book titled "Ready to Recycle". This article discusses the concept of recycling, what materials can be recycled, and how recycled materials become new materials. In addition to the 2 page article (and it's matching foldable mini book both written and a 4.9 - 5.9 aproximate reading level), you receive five practice pages, which include: - 1 page of constructed response questions - 1 page of sequencing & multiple choice questions - 1 page graphic organizer - 1 page vocabulary matching - 1 page writing activity These foldable mini books have been very popular in both my own classroom, and that of colleagues and other classrooms across the country. We keep them inside envelopes glued to a page inside our science / social studies interactive notebooks, but they could be used for other purposes. The 2 page article is exactly the same, and is designed for those who do not have the time to do the foldable in class, or for those with students who have fine motor skill issues and can't do the foldable.
