4th Grade Middle Ages Resources (by price, high to low)

This bundle contains eight close reading activities about key events from the Middle Ages and influential people from the era; a timeline display or sorting activity; three biography writing units about Charlemagne, Joan of Arc and William the Conqueror; and an opinion writing unit discussing the most influential figure from the Middle Ages.

Firstly, there are eight reading comprehension activities, or informational texts, about:

• Charlemagne
• William the Conqueror
• King Richard I
• Robin Hood
• Genghis Khan
• Joan of Arc
• The Renaissance
• The War of the Roses

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity, a crossword and a wordsearch for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.

Then, there are three biography writing units about Charlemagne, Joan of Arc and William the Conqueror. The units have been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

Also, there is an opinion writing unit about who was the most influential figure from the Middle Ages: Charlemagne, Joan of Arc or William the Conqueror. This unit has again been split into three or four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

Finally, there is a Middle Ages Timeline Activity and Display. It is perfect for introducing students to the some of the key events and people of the period. There are 36 posters or task cards that include many of the key events from the end of the Western Roman Empire until the first voyages to the Americas.

The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.

The first lesson involves students retrieving facts from informational texts about the three famous figures, and writing these on to a fact sheet. In the second lesson students need to use these facts to write three to four paragraphs about the individual people. In the third lesson students need to use prompt sheets to write up an introduction and a conclusion. In the final lesson your class will need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on a neat copy using the template provided.

This package is set up and ready for you to use with your students use in creating their own medieval shields. Included: - significance of background designs (with images) - significance of colours - significance of line decorations (with image) - significance of symbols and animals There is also a student sheet for your students to be able to apply the knowledge in the package to tell you what they now know about a particular shield.
