This project aims to help your child/students practice their research skills. They will pick one of the "realms" or regions based on the realms represented in the Nutcracker Ballet (when visiting after Marie/Clara rescues the Nutcracker/Prince). This resource contains 5 cross-curricular mostly mixed media art projects to inspire your students.  Based on circles and the artwork of Sonia Delaunay, these are perfect for Women’s History Month, an artist or art movement study, or any time of the year.  

Designed for Kindergarten through 5th grade students, these engaging projects use a variety of media and are cross-curricular.  Additional project variations and suggested material variations are also included as are National Arts Standards for K-5.  

One project in particular is designed for upper elementary students and is designed to promote student engagement and self-regulation making it ideal to use during times of campus-wide standardized testing.

These mixed media projects are based on Gustav Klimt’s artwork Tree of Life.  Let the metallic colors and vivid imagery inspire your students’ creativity as they explore different materials in these cross-curricular projects. 

This lesson is highly engaging, multidisciplinary, and uses a variety of materials that can be modified for what you have on hand.  Set up stations and let your students choose a project, rotate through and complete multiple projects, or design their own using these projects as inspiration.  This project is designed for upper elementary (3rd-5th grade) students but can be easily adapted for middle school.
