That is exactly what this resource is! This Science of Reading aligned resource is such a fun way to practice phonics skills such as fluency, decoding, and more. This is a GROWING bundle. Current syllable types included in this bundle:

Directions:

Cut out the cards for the version you plan to use, as well as the "BANG" cards. Place them face down in a stack or in a bag or container and have students take turns drawing a card. They should read the card and keep it. If a BANG is drawn, they have to return all their cards to the deck/pile. The student who has the most cards when time is up is the winner.

Practice reading words with affixes with these prefix and suffix reading cards. Students will have fun reading sentences with prefixes and suffixes with this this literacy activity.

What is Included:

These reading rings contain 7-11 cards for each prefix and suffix included.

Ways to Use:

• The rings can be created to focus on one prefix or suffix at a time, or they can be used to create a larger ring with all the prefixes and suffixes mixed together.

French Science of Reading STARTER KIT Activity Bundle is a combination of Science of Reading aligned activities that I have created, designed, and classroom tested to bring you the best of what's in store. Students start with /a/ and blend each consonant by saying the sound, tapping the sound, mapping the sound, and writing the sound. 3. French Phonics Alphabet activity sheets are designed to get that each sound of the alphabet familiarized and into the daily lexicon of each student. This can be used as a whole group instruction activity prior to being given out. The students could each get a booklet for doing each sound as the year progresses, for morning work packets, or this could be used for extension activities for early finishers.

4. Decodable Texts are the first set of texts that focus on early sound patterns for those setting out to learn the phonemes in French. A great way to start out for K-2 Immersion students that are just getting used to French sounds. These texts include a target sound, a few heart words, a small text, and comprehension questions.

5. French Phonics Screener is my most downloaded item in my store and this full version will take you from Kindergarten all the way to the Grade 2 level in French Immersion as it includes complex sounds, complex vowels, and all the blended sounds as well. A comprehensive screening tool that take a few minutes per students so you know right at the beginning of the year, where you need to focus your lesson planning!

6. Pyramid Reading Cards 1 are a set of early reading sounds that will get your students excited and motivated to embark on the world of reading. Each card has one repeating sentence that students get to practice from top to bottom. My students love to do these cards in pairs as they sit elbow to elbow, knee to knee to read to a buddy.

7. Large Phonics Flash Cards are a MUST in the Science of Reading classroom. Once your students are able to distinguish sounds, they are asking to put the grapheme to the phoneme! So here you go. Large print. Easy font. Easy print. The letters are positioned for easy stacking so you can hang on a ring and flip pages quickly. Students LOVE to be the Mini-prof when it's their turn to try to stump their classmates. Once you have the single sounds down, it's time to blend. Printing on different coloured paper and laminated will help cards to last year after year!

Decodable Reading Activity packet includes a variety of activites for French teachers. Quick and simple K-2 reading fluency activities that are decodable and aligned with the Science of Reading. Fun and engaging French resource targeting those learning in the French Immersion, Core French, or modern language programs. Build a strong foundation in French language with educational resources specifically designed with your students in mind.

As I got into using these decodable reading passages in class, the students guided me to stretching out the resource even more to create a cute little packet for them to do a lot of the work on their own.

What's in the pack?

There are 4 original texts that explore complex sounds in French

Target sounds include AN/EN, ON, OU, OI

Text 1: Blanche

How we use this in class:

My students now know that we read the passage first together as a group. We decode. We explore. We segment words. Blend them all so we are confident.

Next, we do activities with the sound blends themselves. Using a highlighter, students race to find all the target sound words in the text. I don’t know about you but my student LOVE highlighters! After that, students used the lined window to write all the target sound words so they’re sure they have them all. Then, we do a little exercise where we try to explain what happened in the story in as few words as possible.

The very last step is to draw a picture of what is happening in the text. Students can do most or all this activity pack on their own in the Grade One and Grade Two Immersion setting. It’s a great way to have them build confidence all while giving you the time to work with small groups at the back of your class!

Why real pictures?

Help students make connections to the world around them. When we provide materials and resources with real pictures versus drawing and clip-art, there leaves little to no room for error.

While clip-art and illustrations can be fun and useful, they have a place. Allow your students to view real life pictures to reference and to help make connections!

Directions

Rolling the Die:

• Students roll a six-sided die to determine which sight word they will read.
• Students can also scan the QR code on the worksheet using a device with a QR code scanner to access a virtual dice roller.

Reading the Sight Word:

• Students match the number rolled with the corresponding sight word on their worksheet.
• Students read the sight word out loud.
• Students should focus on pronouncing each word correctly and quickly.

Marking Progress:

• Once students read a sight word, they should highlight or color the box. They could also cover it with a counter or place marker etc.
• If students roll a number they have already completed, they should roll again until they land on a new sight word.
• Students continue rolling and reading until they have completed all the sight words on their worksheets.
