This creative and printable board game has been developed to provide a foundation to explore anger management.

“”Keep My Cool” is a growth mindset board game which is great for students who may need some additional support with dealing with their anger.

Using the analogy of an “ice-cream” students are asked to reflect on their behaviour how they can keep their cool. This game encourages reflection and psycho-education around anger management, impulse control, self-control, emotional regulation.

There are over 115 reflective question cards with 23 cards in each of the five various color-coded areas. These include:

Self-Discovery – reflecting, learning and exploring their own anger

Triggers – reflecting on what makes them loose their cool.

Cool Down– exploring cool down, coping strategies and strategies

For this assignment, I asked students to brainstorm a boat/vessel that they wanted to have in the water, and water kind of body of water they wanted in their artwork. We discussed Winslow Homer, and his style of art. Students sketched their drawing and painted the larger areas first. Students painted the boat, smaller details and reflections last. This creative Picasso Self Portraits Unit was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I asked students to sketch themselves in a Picasso-inspired style-abstract. Students exaggerated their facial features and placed them in different areas on their face. Students were asked to outline their artwork with a black sharpie marker. This creative Stained-Glass Tree Painting Unit was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I asked students to practice drawing different trees. Next, I taught students how to draw a tree that has branches extending to the edge of the paper. I demonstrated how to outline and fill in the tree. Students created their own stained-glass tree artwork on Final Copy Paper. Students outlined and colored their artwork. Students used mostly watercolor paints for their artwork. For this assignment, I asked students to brainstorm a dragons & castle drawing inside their sketchbook. Foreground, middle ground, and background were emphasized throughout the 4–5-day unit. Students were asked to draw 15-30 large flowers all over their paper. Students were allowed to paint the flowers with any colors they wanted. When the artwork was dry students outlined all the flowers with a black sharpie marker. Some collage skills were added to the assignment at the end of the unit when students needed to cut/glue down strips of construction paper to the bottom of the Final Copy Field of Flowers, to look like fence posts. For this assignment, I asked students to make a Cool Sunshades Self Portrait, celebrating the joy of themselves. Students create a self-portrait of themselves, but they don’t need to worry about drawing their eyes-we will have cool sunshades covering them. The sunshades will have designs and details that also help describe themselves to others. Materials will be mainly colored pencils and crayons. This is a 4–5-day assignment. For this assignment, I asked students to make an awesome artwork out of a simple “circle”. Students start with a brainstorming circle paper. After brainstorming different circle designs, students choose their favorite for a Final Copy Paper. Do I have to print out the game materials for every kid?

Nope! You ONLY have to print out the answer sheet for each kid or group. Just one set of the actual puzzles is all you need! If you choose to use the digital version to save paper and ink, then you will only need to print the QR codes for the Mission (get the kids to scan and read this first), Hint Cards and Puzzle Tasks 1-9.

Do I have to print out the Mystery Door for the game?

Nope! I suggest that you show the picture of the door + QR code on your phone or laptop for pupils to scan and enter their 4-digit secret code. You can also use an actual lock where the kids can actually enter the 4-digit secret codes to complete the game.

How can you use this resource?

⭐Build all the task cards in one sitting. This typically takes 1 – 2 hours to complete the set.

⭐Have the task cards available alongside STEM and STEAM bins, makerspaces, centers, tubs, busy boxes, morning baskets, or available for early finishers to complete using any available materials. Students can even draw their creations instead of building them!

⭐Use one card a day during morning time. Have students fill out a STEAM / STEM worksheet with some of the challenges that require more problem solving and creativity.

⭐Build all the task cards in one sitting. This typically takes 1 – 2 hours to complete the set.

⭐Have the task cards available alongside STEM and STEAM bins, makerspaces, centers, tubs, busy boxes, morning baskets, or available for early finishers to complete using any available materials. Students can even draw their creations instead of building them!

⭐Use one card a day during morning time. Have students fill out a STEAM / STEM worksheet with some of the challenges that require more problem solving and creativity.

⭐Use them for public speaking practice. Allow students to build as many cards as predetermined, followed by show and tell with the class, or their families. Use the Discussion Questions to help guide this portion. Students can practice speaking and listening skills, using loud and clear voices, and giving full attention to the speaker. Encourage students to ask questions to their classmates.

⭐Perfect for partner or group work! Allow students to work with partners, or in groups with specific roles as they problem solve together.

They can discuss what they made, liked, what they would improve, and how it solved the problem on the task cards. Why do I think you will love this product, and what makes my challenge set unique?

I love stories that bring adventure to life for kids, which force them to use their imaginations in fun and exciting ways. This challenge task set does exactly that through the loose storyline. Interesting scenarios, adventure and disaster, problem solving and learning, are all part of the experience when building these challenges.

Most building challenge task cards are independent from each other. “Build a boat,” or “build an airplane,” are common themes among the cards. While those are fantastic, and we have done many of them ourselves, I wanted to do something different and more cohesive and engaging for kids.

One of the exciting things about this set, is the randomness that occurs with each card. I strongly suggest that children pick only one card (waiting for other children participating to finish each card before moving on), and not previewing what is on the other cards prior to building. Try folding them up and placing into a hat, bowl, or basket to be picked one at a time, as order is not necessary in this set.

The only rule is to HAVE FUN and allow those imaginations to soar!
