The classifying plants file folder activity allows students to label the parts of plants - cells, stem, roots, and leaves. Students will also match the following vocabulary words and their meanings with pictures: parallel veins and netted veins found in leaves, soft stems and woody stems, smooth leaf margins and jagged leaf margins found on leaves, waxy texture, smooth texture, and rough texture found on leaves, and taproots and fibrous roots. Students will use a chair, a board and car with interchangeable wheels (like a LEGO or K-Nex car) to examine the affects of the inclined plane. Students will run experiments, collect data, and do mathematical calculations including mechanical advantage to complete the activity.
