Because of Winn-Dixie Novel Study: Lesson Plans and Google Slides Included

By A Teachers Sidekick

This is a novel study to go along with Kate DiCamillo’s Novel Because of Winn-Dixie. This product includes completed lesson plans for each chapter, a Google Slide Show for each chapter, Doodle Notes for each chapter, and an End of chapter activity for each chapter. Students will practice analyzing characters and character traits, central idea, supporting details, creating summaries, Problem and Solution, Cause and Effect, Comparing and Contrasting, and building discussion skills!

A large part of this novel study is discussion-based. I have included a slide on the slideshow where you will put your classroom expectations for discussions. With this product students are provided with a lengthy list of female names, male names, and gender neutral names to choose from, possible setting ideas that also include words that focus on the time of day, time of year, days of the week, and months. This packet also provided plot ideas for a variety of writing assignments such as story ideas about life, science fiction, adventure, mystery, fantasy, funny stories, friendship, superhero, family, and animal story ideas.
