J'en avais marre des activités de coloriage et des recherches de mots, et peut-être recherchez-vous quelque chose de plus mature mais avec un contenu qui n'est pas trop intense pour vos pré-adolescents et adolescents. Le jour du Souvenir mérite des discussions profondes et réflexives.

Cette unité de 45 pages engagera vos élèves dans une discussion active et les amènera à réfléchir sur : la guerre, la liberté, le sacrifice, la neutralité, la mémoire, la paix et le conflit. Des images et des détails poignants leur permettront de mieux comprendre le symbolisme du coquelicot, le jour de l'Armistice, l'Holocauste d'Hitler et le rôle que les Canadiens ont joué dans les deux guerres mondiales. Il leur fera explorer brièvement la Première Guerre mondiale et la Seconde Guerre mondiale ainsi que certaines guerres actuelles.

Trois pièces de compréhension (sur la crête de Vimy, sur le poème de MacCrae et sur la Seconde Guerre mondiale) fourniront des moyens d'évaluation pour la collecte de données pour les prochains bulletins! Deux invites d'écriture persuasives sont également fournies.

Cette unité d'apprentissage par projet est centrée autour de "Dragon's Den" et suit le format général de ce type d'émission (Shark Tank, Dans l'oeil du dragon, etc.).

Les étudiants travaillent en binôme ou en autonomie pour proposer une invention de leur choix et créer un projet écrit et un pitch devant le jury (les dragons).

Cela intègre de nombreuses stratégies d'écriture et d'expression orale; à savoir, la persuasion, utiliser les émotions pour influencer un public, choisir notre public et livrer en pensant à notre public, etc.

This 13-page project-based (PBL) unit features three assignments for students to explore cultural diversity through:

• "Mon projet de patrimoine familiale": Interviewing their own family members and creating a brochure or pamphlet summarizing their family's traditions.

• Included with this project is a lesson plan with suggestions, rubric, success criteria, a letter to parents (in both English and French) as well as the interview (in both English and French).

• "Mon héritage culinaire": A class recipe book activity featuring your students' traditional recipes used in their families and passed down through generations.

• Included with this project is success criteria with explanations.

• Includes simple recipe template sheet.

• "L'exploration des plats culturels": A project that will have students creating a realistic, informative ethnic cuisine menu.

I use this product with my 5th graders, but teaching cultural diversity, acceptance and global awareness are universal. This project-based resource would work for students in grades 5 through 9.

Boost your students' vocabulary surrounding Fall and Halloween with this Make-Your-Own Bingo activity suitable for all ages and all levels of French.

This activity is a great way to have your students create their own bingo cards and then to play with them. It comes with many versions depending on your Core French groups.

1. Two versions, one with instructions in English and one with instructions in French, which prompt your students to color, cut and paste to create their bingo card.
2. Two versions, one with instructions in English and one with instructions in French, which prompt your students to create their own illustrations, cut and paste to their bingo card.

Choose the version applicable to your students' level and then they'll cut out their squares and paste them to their bingo card. Take this to the next level by laminating their cards so that they can use a dry-erase marker as a bingo dabber!

Noël - One week French reading program for Christmas

Theme: Quand je me réveille le matin de Noël...

This one-week French reading comprehension program is suitable for upper-beginner to intermediate level primary or secondary levels. This program will have your students reading every day of the week, and is perfect for core or French immersion. These reading activities are specifically meant to be used along with my my Christmas themed vocabulary and writing programs which use a lot of the same words. The reading activities in this program include five separate reading comprehension activities for Monday through Friday. These reading worksheets are a great way to practice new themed vocabulary, see sight words in action, and to improve overall comprehension. Each worksheet includes a paragraph that should be read three times, once for each of the three questions that follow. Students check off the circled numbers each time they read the text and then they answer the corresponding questions.

Here’s how this program works:

✍Lundi:  Je dessine - Give students a drawing page with a writing prompt at the top. This will have them beginning to think about the writing theme for the week and is their first pre-writing assignment. Kids love drawing, and the pictures they draw will later serve as inspiration!

✍Mardi:  Mon livret de vocabulaire - Each student receives a booklet to help them explore the vocabulary related to the week’s writing theme. The front page includes the writing prompt of the week and an image. The second page includes over 80 frequently used French words. Page three lists 12 words that go along with the theme of the week, and the back page has space for ten words that students have either thought of on their own or looked up in the dictionary. The booklet is a simple one page printable that you can either fold in advance or have students do it on their own. Kids write their name on the front cover and you could have them color it.

✍Mercredi:  Vocabulaire - Students go back to their vocabulary booklets from Tuesday and choose ten words that they will include in their rough draft. The words they choose can be a combination of words they have chosen and themed vocabulary that was already written in the booklet. They then write down the chosen words on their vocabulary page that says “ Mots de vocabulaire utiles: J’utiliserai ces mots dans mon paragraphe.”

✍Jeudi:  Mon brouillon - Students write a rough draft of their paragraph using the vocabulary words selected on Wednesday. The brouillon page includes a 5 point checklist at the top for students to evaluate their work for themselves before writing the final copy on Friday. This will motivate students to look over their work and make corrections. 

✍Vendredi:  Ma copie propre - The fifth and final step in this writing program is to write the final copy. Students should feel very confident in writing about this week’s theme by now. At the top of the final copy page they’ll see the writing prompt and question words that they can ask themselves while writing:  qui - quoi - quand - où - pourquoi - comment
