The perfect writing assignment for the month of December or any month of the year! This holiday informational/explanatory writing assignment gives students the opportunity to learn about different holidays around the world. Students will be assigned or choose a holiday to research and then write their own informative essay. There are two pages giving different holidays to research, but you can also write your own holidays in if you would like. Students can use the graphic organizer to help organize their ideas before writing their explanatory essay. Engage your students in a festive exploration of holidays around the world with this comprehensive research and writing activity. Merry Christmas! This is a self-portrait that students will create of themselves. They will then use adjectives to describe their self-portraits/themselves and place them in the ornaments surrounding the self-portrait. There are included cutouts for the self-portrait if students would like to add more things to make it look more like Christmas. The Santa hat, antlers, and ears have already been shaped to fit the head. Students will just need to cut them out.

A Groundhog Day Escape Room activity. Ideal for fifth grade or sixth grade, the activity is perfect for group work; a great holiday activity; team-building activities; or for a fun, engaging and interactive lesson. In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Groundhog Day and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards about important holidays or festivals celebrated in the United States and around the world. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

This resource would be a fun, engaging way for students to practice using area concepts with basic multiplication to create the best layout for the interior of a leprechaun house. The goal is for students to include the four required pieces (bed, couch, table and two chairs), and to then include as many of the optional extras as possible to create the most magical leprechaun home that they can.

This resource would be a fun activity to do on or near St. Patrick's Day. It could be used as a whole group activity, center work, a time filler, an activity to leave for a substitute, etc.
