Apple Music Curator Playlist Assignment - Great for Back to School!

By MsNerdWood

This package includes 4 tasks to get your students thinking about their musical choices. What Is Included: Task 1: Create Your Apple Playlist Task 2: Descriptive Paragraph About Your Playlist Task 3: Cover Art Design Task 4: Reflection Questions (Equity and Inclusivity) Rubric I typically give this assignment out at the beginning of the school year to get to know my student’s taste in music. It takes between 4-6 periods to complete and is appropriate for grade 5-8. Please note: This assignment works best if you are able to access Apple Music. As a teacher, you could always set up a free account to show to your students or ask your students if any of them already have it and would be willing to show the class how it works. Spend some time and show them how to use it if you have access to it. You can also see some demos from the Apple website. If you do not subscribe to Apple Music, I highly recommend it. You can still use this assignment without Apple Music with your students and they can reflect on the inclusivity of the playlist that they create. TIPS: 1. Be sure to leave feedback to earn your TeachShare credits! 2. If you like what you see - follow me for new products and updates (click the star by my store name MsNerdWood).

Lightning Violin - Learn How to Play Violin

By Jason Litt

This is a curriculum I use in grades 3, 4, and 5. We have a full set of violins at our school and we learn notation, rhythms, and notes through an original curriculum called "Lightning Violin". The students all learn the songs together and then an individual student plays the song by themselves for assessment. If they play it correctly, I give them a "bolt" on their chart. It gets very competitive and the students really respond well and practice as hard as they can to get their next bolt. You can make a powerpoint chart or a physical chart and draw a bolt or create one in powerpoint. Included with this are the mp3 files accompaniment files that go along with the powerpoint. Please email me after purchase and I will send you the mp3 files! jasonlitt@gmail.com Enjoy!

The BRASSroom - Identifying Brass Instruments

By Jason Litt

Learning about Brass but don't have a lot of music examples to test the kids? Here's your answer! After a short introduction video about brass, students will see a powerpoint with 4 blank circles with a trumpet, trombone, french horn, and tuba below it. The teacher will then play an example of the instrument being played, and students have to figure out which instrument it belongs to You can do this a few ways! You can print a blank template from the powerpoint, laminate it, distribute to students, and have them mark as they go along and erase after they answer is revealed Alternatively, you can run the entire powerpoint (or PDF) and have them guess after the example is played. When their answer is ready, you will advance in the slide and the answer will be revealed! Included in the ZIP folder: All 10 mp3 files with brass examples are included (with 4 introduction examples) A powerpoint with full answer key A PDF with full answer key Title font and instructions Brass introduction video If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me! jasonlitt@gmail.com

Mystery Word! - Student Printables

By Jason Litt

Working on the lines of the treble clef staff? Here's a fun way to have your students use their knowledge and solve a puzzle with Mystery Word! The Mystery Word package includes 50 challenging words and/or phrases that are spelled using the musical letters (A,B,C,D,E,F, and G) of the treble clef staff. Blank letter boxes are below the note on the staff for the students to fill in. Some words and phrases are easy, but some get pretty difficult! Included are three files: The teacher version, a PDF file with 50 pages in PDF format to use as a class activity. The student version, a PDF file you can print out with 25 pages, 2 puzzles to each page you can individual give to students. (If printed out and copied back-to-back, it only runs 13 pages per booklet) The answer key (just in case a substitute teacher needs it) ;) You can use this as a warmup to your lesson, or a lesson in itself -- it makes a great substitute teacher plan as well! It gets kids to critically think about the lines of the staff to fill in the blanks... my kids love it as it's fun and challenging. Would love to hear feedback how it's working in your classrooms. Any questions, you know where to find me. Have fun!

Barz and Starz

By Jason Litt

Have a whole bunch of Orff instruments and want to get your kids working towards a goal to learn more music? Barz and Starz, at your service! Modeled after the "Rainbow Recorder" series, students learn 8 all-original Orff melodies set to colors -- White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Purple, Blue, Red, and Black. As the kids begin, simple rhythms and patterns are given but as they progress into the "Barz and Starz" system, melodic lines get harder with eighth notes, alternating hands, skips, and increased tempo. Student 'pass off' these compositions by playing them with the accompanied mp3s. The "starz" element is what you wish! I use this with my kids and keep a powerpoint chart and after the student plays their "star" with perfection, they earn that color star on their chart. It becomes quite competitive once the kids see their progress on the chart! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you and enjoy!

Rainbow Recorder 2014

By Jason Litt

A brand new follow up to the Rainbow Recorder series This version of Rainbow Recorder focuses on 9 original compositions that your new (and even advanced) recorder students will love. We bring it back to the beginning and learn how to connect the lines and spaces on the staff to note names and have students begin to memorize the notes, rather than the letters. We gradually scaffold into more difficult music by adding on new notes and rhythms. Included, you will receive a 9 page PDF file (reproducable for your students or as a teacher guide) and 9 accompaniment tracks for each "belt". Your students are GUARANTEED to love these with lots of original rock and hip hop background tracks (you would never know how cool playing a whole bunch of A's and B's are until you play along to this!) ;) An alternate version with the note names are available, please contact me at jasonlitt@gmail.com if you'd like that as an alternate. As always, please feel free to let me know if you have any questions and enjoy!
