You need a fun, engaging, minimal set up and low cost lab? This is it! I really enjoy doing these labs and as I ask questions, watching when my students get that “ooohhh I get it now!”  This lab is all set up for you with the question "Which color M&M dissolves quicker". It has the steps broken down so it allows students to practice the steps. It provides observation questions for students to ponder. Then has a collaboration piece which does save time if your time is limited with not having to do repeated trials, although, I do emphasize the importance of having to repeat the experiment and get the same results.  I know you and your students will enjoy this!

Need an activity that is engaging, hands on, requires critical thinking and peer collaboration? THIS IS IT! This is a great lab that utilizes all of these and would be great for an observation! This lab will walk through the scientific method steps, research and analyze the properties of water and other liquids. Students can see how the molecules of each liquid will react with substances. Once the experiment is completed and the students have their results, they collaborate with two other groups and record their results to compare. This eliminates having to do the experiment more than once, although I do emphasize that in an experiment, results need to be able to be repeated for it to be considered proven.

This can be used as an introductory lab for water properties for older students.

This word sleuth will provide your students/children with a fun journey in the world of Science with key vocabulary words. It can be done in class, centers, or as a fun homework assignment.

How to Play?

1. Preparation: Print out the instruction sheet, title cards, and statement cards. Cut out all the cards neatly.
2. Setting the Stage: On a bulletin board or wall, display the title cards ("Weathering," "Erosion," "Deposition") with enough space in between for students to sort the statement cards.
3. Sorting Challenge: Divide students into groups (optional) or have them work individually. Distribute the statement cards face down. Students will shuffle or draw cards and then carefully read each statement aloud, trying to determine which process (weathering, erosion, or deposition) it describes.
4. Checking and Celebrating: Once all the statements are sorted, use the answer key (statement cards in the correct order) to review the placements. Celebrate the students' understanding and teamwork (if applicable).

These short activities reinforce or introduce concepts to students. I call these activities “mini labs” because they are simple activities that do not take the whole class period. In this product, students will learn how animals obtain energy. They will review vocabulary words and their meanings - ecosystem and organism. Students will learn about the importance of food chains and what each link entails - first link - sun, second link - producers, consumers and how they can be carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores, and what each of those consumers means, students will learn about where they get energy from, students will also label the 1st link, 2nd link, producers, and kinds of consumers on food chains. Students will then look at 4 picture cards. They will look at each card and write how each organism gets its energy. At the end of the product, students will fill out the exit slip that reviews the 1st link, consumers, and producers.
