50 ESL - ELL this or that question cards - Game of two extremes

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

50 ESL - ELL this or that question cards - Game of two extremes ❖

Keep your middle school and high school students active by playing the "Two Extremes" game. The facilitator will use a stack of cards listing things, activities or places that fall at opposite ends of the spectrum, such as: salty or sweet, London or New York, Mac or PC.

The students start standing in a big group, but when each choice is read, they move to the side of the room that the facilitator indicates is associated with their choice (see the arrows on the cards). Those who can’t make up their mind or don’t have a preference remain in the center. Students will see all of the things that they have in common with their classmates and will likely learn some new vocabulary while they’re at it!

These cards are great for middle school or high school and can be used at any time, especially when everyone needs a break and needs to stand up and move around a bit.

This activity requires no teacher prep once the set of cards is printed and cut out. Don’t want to print or don’t have time to do so? That’s ok! There’s a PDF file with only one card per page that you can project and play as a class.

Included:

PDF of big cards to project when you don’t want to print

Stack of 50 cards to print, cut out, punch holes in and attach with a ring - Black and white & color copies provided

How to play

This resource is included in my ESL - ELL speaking, listening, writing activities and games - Growing bundle.

Click Graphic Novel Comprehension Questions

By Sign with me TOD

The graphic novel, Click! Kayla Miller is great for children ages 8 - 13, as they can relate with the characters. My students enjoyed this book because it is a book about friendship and finding where they belong or where they "click" as they navigate middle school. This book does not have chapters, so comprehension questions were separated by pages. Therefore, written comprehension skills are emphasized while reading.

The comprehension questions in this product relate with the text as well as students own experiences. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and a few example sentences are presented in the packet. As the book is being read aloud, as students are reading the book or after the book has been read, students can answer the comprehension questions in this packet.

Answer key is included at the end of the product.

There is also an assessment for the end of week four, the end of week seven, the end of week twelve, and the end of week 16 to test student knowledge. The daily activities should last 5-10 minutes. EVERYTHING IS EDITABLE.

THIS BUNDLE COVERS:

- Helping Verbs

- Articles

- Adjectives

- Adverbs

- Prepositions

- Adjectival Prepositional Phrases

- Adverbial Prepositional Phrases

- Coordinating Conjunctions

- Compound Sentences

- Compound Adjectives and Adverbs

- Compound Prepositional Phrases

- Linking Verbs

- Predicate Adjectives

- Predicate Nominatives

- Transitive Verbs

- Direct Objects

- Indirect Objects

Answers are included for all diagrams.

Sentence diagramming is so helpful when teaching students parts of speech and sentence structure. The repetitiveness of diagramming for a bell ringer is extremely beneficial for students. I tried grammar workbooks for years, but my students hardly retained anything. Daily sentence diagramming made them remember their parts of speech, and was an amazing foundation for my students to have when we started forming different types of sentences. They picked up on fixing run-ons quickly as well because of their diagramming foundation.

This comprehensive bundle encapsulates the comprehensive journey through the seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth sets of 100 Fry sight words, offering a structured approach to mastering sight words across higher levels of language proficiency.

Key Features
Each checklist within this bundle retains the meticulous design with 9 columns per page, ensuring thorough progress tracking and assessment across multiple trials. Available in both full-color and black-and-white versions, these checklists are adaptable to various printing needs and diverse classroom settings.

Focused Goal Setting
Empower teaching objectives by establishing precise IEP goals aligned with each set of 100 Fry sight words. These checklists assist in creating targeted and measurable learning objectives, enhancing sight word recognition in more complex linguistic contexts.

Complementary Practice Tools
Supplementary flashcards accompany each set of 100 Fry sight words within this bundle, providing essential reinforcement and support for consistent and effective practice sessions.

Why This Bundle Matters
By combining the seventh to tenth sets of 100 Fry sight words, this bundle significantly enhances students' reading fluency, amplifies language proficiency, and fosters nuanced reading development. It stands as an indispensable resource for educators committed to guiding students toward advanced sight word mastery and heightened literacy skills.

Advantages of Fry Words over Dolch Words The Fry Sight Words list is organized into 10 groups of 100 words each, covering the most frequently used words in writing. Starting with the initial 300 words in early education significantly boosts reading and comprehension skills. While Fry words aren't strictly tied to specific grades, they're usually introduced in sets of 100 words to support gradual sight word recognition. Here's a general guide for introducing these sets:

  • First 100 Fry Words: Typically introduced in kindergarten and first grade.
  • Second 100 Fry Words: Taught in first or second grade, reinforcing foundational words.
  • Third 100 Fry Words: Added in second or third grade, including more complex words.
  • Fourth 100 Fry Words: Introduced in third or fourth grade, advancing vocabulary.
  • Fifth 100 Fry Words: Presented in fourth or fifth grade, offering more challenging words.

The 6th to 10th sets of 100 Fry words are usually introduced later, depending on the student's mastered words.

*******************************

Save a ton of $$$ by purchasing the Accountable Talk Bundle!!

*******************************

This resource includes:

------ 12 Accountable Talk / Classroom Talk Discussion Trackers (PDF version**)**

------ 12 Accountable Talk / Classroom Talk Discussion Trackers (EDITABLE version**)**

*******************************

Administrators walk into classrooms for observations and hear rigorous classroom talk among students. Ultimately, and this has happened with me, administrators may say, “Students were engaged in rigorous classroom talk, and that's great, but how are you tracking this discussion?” YIKES! Evidently, it all comes down to how you’re collecting and keeping track of data even during Classroom Talk.

This resource includes 12 different Accountable Talk / Classroom Talk Discussion Trackers (in different variations). Two of the Accountable Data Trackers are "Student Trackers" and titled “My Discussion Tracker” where students can keep track of their own participation during classroom talk. These trackers enable you to keep track of who's making:

  • Claims/Inferences
  • Supporting their Ideas with Evidence
  • Providing an Analysis or Explanation of their Claims/Inferences (Substance)
  • Volunteering their Ideas
  • Using Accountable Talk Stems
  • Engaging in Respectful Communication with Peers
  • Actively Listening
  • Making Connections
  • Building on Others’ Ideas
  • Not Contributing to Discussion
  • Not Using Accountable Talk Stems
  • Does Not Support Ideas with Evidence
  • Interrupting Others (as they speak)
  • Engaged in Side Activities
  • Lacking Substance

✅ Keeping track of students' oral participation will help you notice the participation patterns in the room and seek out those who have learned to fly under the radar!

✅ Some trackers also provides you opportunities to jot down important key points that students have shared during discussion as well as some interventions needed to help them engage better in classroom talk.

✅ All this information can be tracked in these Classroom Talk / Accountable Talk Discussion Trackers. The data captured in these trackers can greatly help you provide the necessary interventions needed to support students in rigorous classroom talk. These trackers can also help you monitor their progress and have evidence of student learning. Your administrators will love you for this!

✅ Additionally, all 12 Discussion Trackers come in EDITABLE forms, so you can easily modify according to your needs and your students’ needs.

PLEASE NOTE: The editable trackers do not contain the same fonts, borders, and clipart images as in the PDF version due to copyright purposes and requirements made by other contributing clipart artists. However, you may add your own borders and images to the editable version as well as change the fonts to your own style. The trackers themselves in the editable version are the same as the PDF version. The PDF version contains all the visually appealing fonts, clipart graphics, and borders.

Never, ever have I ever - ESL - ELL speaking activity ❖

Included with this resource:

75 game cards - Black and white and color versions - Ready to print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and hook together with a key ring.

Here's how the game works:

Sentence diagramming is so helpful when teaching students parts of speech and sentence structure. The repetitiveness of diagramming for a bell ringer is extremely beneficial for students. I tried grammar workbooks for years, but my students hardly retained anything. Daily sentence diagramming made them remember their parts of speech, and was an amazing foundation for my students to have when we started forming different types of sentences. This technique provided my students a strong enough foundation to truly understand gerunds, participles, and infinitives!
