This is a set of 12 situation or skit cards that your students can use to practice making conversation in French, Spanish or any other language. Students work in pairs and read the situations they are to talk about. Each card includes a situation and suggestions as to what kind of information they should include. All of the cards are written in English, and students adapt by speaking in the target language.

I like to have my students write out the information asked for on each card. Once they have the basics covered they can then take turns being the one asking questions and the one providing answers.

These role play cards are an excellent way to practice conversation when you don't exactly know what the other person is going to say in response. Excellent resource for private tutoring sessions for students who have a hard time with oral production.

✮ English months, days, and seasons game - I have...Who has? ✮

This version includes 27 cards. Depending on class size you could either give each student more than one card or have them play with a partner. I recommend printing out and laminating these cards if possible so that you can use them over and over again. This is a great resource for ESL or any classroom where English is spoken.

Here's how this game works. Once each student has a card (or cards), the one who has the card that says I'll start the game begins the game. He says, for example, I'll start the game. I have May. Who has Autumn? The person who has the card with autumn on it says, I have autumn. Who has Thursday? And so the game goes on until the last card is called and that student's card will say, The game is over!

Another idea is to prepare two sets of cards, divide your class into two groups and let each group have a go to see which team can get through the entire deck of cards the fastest. It's a lot of fun, and though you can play with younger students the older ones love this game just as much.

New Year's Scattergories Game in English

This is a really fun activity to play before and after the New Year with your students as they practice and build their vocabulary. Scattergories is the perfect classroom group game! You can play this game with students of literally any age or level.

Players attempt to create answers for each of the four categories on their game. This should be a fast moving game and there are only spaces for six words per category. The MAXIMUM they can write is six words so they have to choose them wisely. Students can be creative and flexible with their answers, but other players can challenge them!

12 games are included with different categories! You can either print out the game sheets or project them to save paper and ink. For younger students you can allow more time for them to think and write, while older students will love the challenge of the timer.

How to play: Come up with as many words as you can that are related to the one at the top of each row. Once the timer goes off, you just count and compare how many words you got for each category with the other players. Community building game for students of all ages, a fun NO PREP activity. Students say "Never, ever have I ever" or "I have" followed by something they may or may not have done following the prompts on the cards. Your students will love this game and will learn a lot about each other!

Thanksgiving Scattergories Games

These are really fun games to play before and after Thanksgiving with your students as they practice and build their vocabulary. Scattergories is the perfect classroom group game! You can play this game with students of any age or level. Fun for any classroom and perfect for kids learning English - ESL.

Players attempt to create answers for each of the four categories on their game. This should be a fast moving game and there are only spaces for six words per category. The MAXIMUM they can write is six words so they have to choose them wisely. Students can be creative and flexible with their answers, but other players can challenge them!

6 games are included with 4 different categories on each page. You can either print out the game sheets or project them to save paper and ink. For younger students you can allow more time for them to think and write, while older students will love the challenge of the timer.

How to play (written on each game sheet): Come up with as many words as you can that are related to the one at the top of each row. Once the timer goes off, you just count and compare how many words you got for each category with the other players. If they came up with the same word as you, that word doesn't count toward your score. Whoever has the most words per list wins that round.

English Dots and Boxes Game - I AM / ARE YOU STATEMENTS - No prep printable

An easy and fun no-prep game that will elicit a lot of exposure and pronunciation for the target vocabulary and grammar when teaching I am / I am not / Are you. This is a one-page dots & boxes game including directions. This game could be laminated and used repeatedly with dry-erase markers or played on an iPad with annotation / whiteboard tools. The following constructions are used: I AM - I AM NOT - ARE YOU?

The following adjectives are used: HUNGRY - THIRSTY - AFRAID - HOT - COLD - RIGHT - WRONG

Objective: Complete more boxes than your component. Each player draws lines using a different color. On your turn, make a horizontal or vertical line from one dot to another. Say the words on either side of the line you drew. If you complete a box on your turn, draw an X in the box using your color. Once all of the boxes have been completed, count to see who got the most. Find someone who... This ESL group speaking activity is great for getting students to speak and practice their vocabulary when learning about ACCIDENTS AND EMERGENCIES. Your students will enjoy getting up and moving around the classroom as they ask their classmates questions that are listed on the worksheet which includes sixteen questions. This activity can also be used in any English speaking classroom as an ice-breaker or getting to know you activity.

One worksheet to print out and make one copy for each student in your class. There are sixteen squares on the grid. Each square contains one question and a space to write a classmate’s name.

Instructions:

Have your students move around the room asking classmates the questions that are written in the squares on the grid that you provide. If a classmate responds with YES he or she writes his name on the line provided. Complete sentences are encouraged even when the answer is NO. Activity continues until all boxes are filled. Once all of the boxes have been signed your students can turn in their papers.

English forehead guessing vocabulary game

This forehead guessing game is very simple. It includes 55 cards with pictograms representing an object, an action or an animal. This version is a mishmash of themes.

How to play:

From 2 to 10 players. Make two or more teams, the team with the youngest player starts the game.

Draw a card and without looking at it, show it to other members of your team. If possible, place it on his forehead with an adhesive. The player who draws the card must ask questions in order to guess what is on the card. The other members of the team answer only by "YES", "NO" or "sometimes" or another word that can guide his or her teammates. No gestures or noises are allowed. For example, if the card shows a dog,  the player will have to ask several questions to be able to know what is on his card.

Examples:

"Is it an animal"? Yes

“Does this animal live in water”? No

“Does it eat meat”? Yes

The team scores a point if the word is guessed. The team that reaches 10, 15 or 20 points has won !!
