Middle Ages Close Reading Passages | Digital & Print | 5th Grade & 6th Grade

A Google Forms reading comprehension bundle with eight individual activities about key events or key figures from the Middle Ages.
The activities, which come in PDF format too, have an informational text with comprehension and grammar questions followed by an extension task, are about the following people or topics:
The NO PREP informational text activities are ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade. The resources, which also come in PDF format, allow students to learn key facts about history whilst working on their comprehension skills.

This resource bundle is great for:
These activities are online resources, that use Google Forms, and are linked to your Google Drive. They can be completed by students online using tablets, phones or computers, and are easily assessed by teachers as all the answers are provided in a quick and easy format.

Time allowance to complete each activity:
5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.
40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)
Time allowance to assess:
A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.
Please ensure when you download this resource into Google Drive that you are logged in to the gmail account where you wish to store the activity. In the past teachers have downloaded resources into their school account in error. Thanks :)

Protestant Reformation Project (at school): 6th Grade Studies Weekly Week 26

The Reformation--but at school:
Students will bring the Reformation to their classroom with this activity. They will reflect on what they feel needs to be changed in their school community and what steps need to be taken to accomplish these changes.
This partner activity requires students to work cooperatively in order to be successful. They will also need to be creative and think outside the box.
Students will create their own list to place on the classroom door like Martin Luther placed on the church door during the Reformation.
This activity aligns with Indiana Social Studies Standard 6.H.9.

Protestant Reformation Walk of Fame Project: 6th Grade Studies Weekly Week 26

Protestant Reformation Walk of Fame:
Students will create a Hollywood Star style Walk of Fame showcasing important reformers of the Protestant Reformation. They will randomly be assigned a reformer which they will research. Students can also answer follow up questions for increased rigor.
Students will decide what type of reformation in which their individual was involved: scientist, soldier, scholar, religious leader, or royalty. They will also determine five important facts concerning this reformer.
Creativity will be put on display with students choosing their star color and deciding how to write their information on their star.
Reformers include: John Wycliffe, Galileo, William Tyndale, Joan of Arc, Martin Luther, John Calvin, King Henry VIII, Queen Mary I, Queen Elizabeth I, Johannes Gutenberg.
Follow up questions increase rigor of this project.
This project aligns with Indiana Social Studies Standard 6.H.9.

A discussion writing unit allowing children to research, discuss and write about who was the most influential figure from the Middle Ages: Charlemagne, Joan of Arc or William the Conqueror. The unit has been split into four separate lessons which and is perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade.

In the second lesson students need to use these facts to write three to four paragraphs about the individual people. In the third lesson students need to use prompt sheets to write up an introduction and a conclusion. In the final lesson your class will need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on a neat copy using the template provided.

This activity is an online resource, that uses Google Forms, and is linked to your Google Drive. It can be completed by students online using tablets, phones or computers, and is easily assessed by teachers as all the answers are provided in a quick and easy format.

Time allowance to complete:
5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.
40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)
Time allowance to assess:
A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.
Please ensure when you download this resource into Google Drive that you are logged in to the gmail account where you wish to store the activity. In the past teachers have downloaded resources into their school account in error. Thanks :)

A no prep fun and engaging for middle and high school grade students of history not he events of England in 1066. Develops students research and summarising skills with online notes. first introduce the topic with a short focused slide deck on the topic on Medieval Europe History. I would suggest enlarging the document to A3.
Resources:
A research task on the different claims to the English throne in 1066AD. Students access the website on the research sheet for the information as a starting point. They are required to produce an argument with evidence from their research.
