Ask the children to use this worksheet to to record what they SEE, HEAR, SMELL and FEEL as they walk outside on a nice Autumn day.
Recommended sequence
Review the 5 senses.
Take a moment to tune in, breathe, and just be.
Give instructions for how to quietly be in the outside world, using keen observation and a relaxed mind to fill in this chart.
Give plenty of time for students to draw or write their findings.
Come together as a group and find out what people observed and any impact it had on them.
Tips for your mindfulness nature walk
- Walk at a natural, slow pace. Take your time to take in the beauty of nature around you. Look around you. Notice the trees around you. Are they starting to change colors? Are they losing their leaves?
- Take in deep breaths through your nose. Shift your awareness to your smell. What do you smell? Does it smell earthy? Do you smell the leaves around you?
- Listen. What do you hear? Are there animals bustling around? Do you hear the leaves crunching underneath your feet?
- Pick up a few leaves. How do they feel? Are they starting to decompose? Are they crunchy? What color are they?
- Shift your attention back to walking. Feel the physical sensation of walking. One foot up, one foot down. Notice your feet touching the ground. How do you feel?
- At the end of your walk, pause and take a moment. Stand still and take in a deep breath. Take a look around and notice your feelings.

Exploring Careers: Landscape Architect - Career Simulation | Distance Learning

Learning about Careers – Landscape Architecture Simulation project gives students an opportunity to experience what Landscape Architects actually do. This is perfect for a technology, business or marketing class, or a class that focuses on careers. Students use Web 2.0 tools such as: (Plan a Garden, Gardena, Small Blue Print Planner (download, online version coming soon), or Sketchup to design an amazing outdoor area for a home. This project was created for a grade 7-8 Career Exploration class, but could easily be adapted for older students.
Materials Required
· Access to computers for each student (or pair of students)

These name tags have a line designated for the student’s name, type of artwork it is, and grade level of the student. Using these name tags makes it easy for handing back artworks to students after the art is displayed in an art gallery, art museum, and/or art show. NFL on FOX Theme - **ADVANCED** BUCKET DRUMMING!

Need to connect with your kids (especially your 4th/5th grade/middle school boys!) with their pop music through general music? Involve them in bucket drumming with the theme from NFL on FOX (Advanced Version)!
There are two all-color coded slides along with the form identifiers listed next to each phrase. Discuss form with the students and teach them (by rote) the rhythms on the powerpoint with the corresponding repeats (most are repeated 2 or 3times). Then, apply it to drums!
All regular notation is to be played on the buckets (or drums, or ground, however you wish), and the X notation (with a down stem) are played as stick clicks above their head (or you could apply it to a tambourine or other auxiliary instrument)
- This arrangement is a little more challenging with 16th note passages throughout the arrangement and may be more geared towards upper elementary or lower middle school musicians

Stop, Drop, and BOX! (Identifying Rhythms)

In this rhythmic identifying game (fastest one wins!), students will see a rhythm displayed on the board with a box (one beat or two beats) inside the rhythm. These boxes will be blank and can hold different types of beats to complete the rhythmic phrase
The students will then listen to an example of music and figure out which of the available boxes (with corresponding rhythms) would complete the rhythm shown on the screen! Simply click on the sound icon, have the students listen, and then advance the slide when they choose the correct answer.
There are 10 musical examples in this lesson and works great with some of the younger elementary students. They can either vocalize "1st" "2nd" or "3rd" box, come up to the screen and pick, or have a race to see who can select the correct box first.

Mystery Word! - Student Printables

Working on the lines of the treble clef staff? Here's a fun way to have your students use their knowledge and solve a puzzle with Mystery Word! The Mystery Word package includes 50 challenging words and/or phrases that are spelled using the musical letters (A,B,C,D,E,F, and G) of the treble clef staff. Blank letter boxes are below the note on the staff for the students to fill in. Some words and phrases are easy, but some get pretty difficult! Included are three files: The teacher version, a PDF file with 50 pages in PDF format to use as a class activity. The student version, a PDF file you can print out with 25 pages, 2 puzzles to each page you can individual give to students. (If printed out and copied back-to-back, it only runs 13 pages per booklet) The answer key (just in case a substitute teacher needs it) ;) You can use this as a warmup to your lesson, or a lesson in itself -- it makes a great substitute teacher plan as well! It gets kids to critically think about the lines of the staff to fill in the blanks... my kids love it as it's fun and challenging. Would love to hear feedback how it's working in your classrooms. This unit study is at the level of your middle schoolers - in Core French (FSL) - both for content and maturity. I was finding materials that matched their comprehension were babyish and they'd be disengaged and frustrated! My material is engaging, animated, not babyish but at their (beginner!) level.
