How to Play Bottle Flip

• Place students into random partners and give each set of partners a water bottle to flip
• Print discussion cards for each group
• Have students get out paper for scoring
• The oldest student flips first
• If they flip the bottle and it lands upright, the flipper gets 2 points, and then its their partners turn to flip
• If they flip the bottle and it does not land upright, they have to draw and answer a random question
• If the flipper answers the question, they get one point. If the student does not answer or says “I don’t know,” the OTHER student gets the point and they get to take their turn
• play for 10 minutes and switch partners!

Find someone who is an engaging no-prep icebreaker activity to do with your students after winter break! Its a no-prep team building activity that will build classroom community and help your students get their back to school chatters out.

Students can practice their speaking and listening skills as they get a chance to walk around the room trying to find someone who fits the description in each box! The first person who fills in all 16 boxes wins! You can use the pre-formatted one page printable or customize the question with the editable Google Slides file.

• Bobsleigh,
• Aerial-Freestyle Skiing,
• Skeleton Luge and
• Snowboarding.

Each text is two full pages and each is accompanied by 4 in-depth questions as well as an answer key.

These texts can be used to model reading or writing skills, for informative and descriptive writing, or to use during a guided reading or shared reading with your students. They could be used as an assessment of comprehension. They could easily be assigned to a substitute teacher. I love using these readings around Canada Games, Winter Games or Olympics.

As with all of my documents, I cater to a strictly middle-school crowd, and you'll not find frilly, kiddish or immature content (vocabulary, fonts, structure or images). These would be suitable for your students in grades 5-7 (even 4th or 8th), depending on needs and interests.
