Trace, write, build, and use the winter vocabulary words in these Winter Word Writing Practice worksheets. Two different levels are included: one is a half page activity with no sentence building section and the other is a full page activity with sentence building. Both version use the same words, so that they can be used by students on different levels. Winter words included are snowman, snowflake, ice skates, hockey, hot cocoa, skis, mittens, and more.

Both a color and a black and white version of each word are included for easy printing. Use the black and white version to add coloring to the worksheets!

Most of the word families have 5 corresponding pictures, except for a few word families. The snowman heads contain the word family on the top of the hat, while the snowballs contain the pictures of the different word families.

How do learners complete this Winter Snowman Rhyming Puzzles activity?

  • Present learners with the snowballs and the snowman head word families.
  • Learners will sound out the word and identify the word that rhymes with it and match the pieces together to build the snowman.
  • Learners will match the pictures in the snowballs to the heads of the snowman with the correct word family. They will continue doing this until they finish building the snowman word family.
  • They will create a rhyming snowman.

Preparing this Winter Literacy Activity for Kindergarten:

  • Print the pages, laminate them and cut them apart.

Differentiation:

This activity can be differentiated by changing the number of snowballs and word families used at a single time depending on the learner's needs. To make this activity more challenging present the learner with more word families and snowball pictures to work with and vice versa.

- Provide learners with paint, you can get learners to paint their own hands with paint. Alternatively, provide learners with trays of 1 to 2 colors filled with a thin layer of paint, they will dip their palms into the paint.

- Learners will then place their palms onto the page to stamp their handprint and create their winter handprint project.

- They can trace the word on the page if required.

- Leave the pages up to dry completely before giving it back to your learners.

This is a fun activity, but can get rather messy, so make sure your learners are aware of what they are doing so it does not get out of control. Keeping only a couple of trays of paint for learners to dip their palms into would definitely help with reducing the mess.

These hands-on and engaging Winter Color Clip Cards are designed for young children who are learning to recognize their colors and are able to differentiate between them.

What is included in this Winter Rainbow Color Recognition Activity?

  • 11 Color Wheels (winter themed)
  • Each wheel comes with a color in the center and several winter themed rainbow objects on the sides of the wheels.
  • This resource comes in two versions, a single wheel a page, or two wheels a page.

How do you use these clip cards?

Children will use wooden clothespin and clip the winter items that match the color in the center of the wheel. There are 4 correct options for each wheel.

How many wheels are included in the printable?

There are a total of 11 Wheels included. You can decide how many wheels can be used, it can just a few or all can be used at once depending on the learner.

The color 'grey' comes in the 'gray' version as well.

When can you use this Color Recognition Activity?

  • This printable can be used to strengthen fine motor skills, explore during morning work or used as supplemental literacy/math centers.
  • The centers are best used once printed on cardstock and/or laminated. You can choose to implement these centers in an independent way or use with small-groups.
