Fall Bundle of 40 Close Reading Passages | Digital & Print | 5th & 6th Grade

A Google Forms reading comprehension bundle with forty individual activities about key events in September, October, November and December, or famous figures that were either born or died in the fall. The activities, which come in PDF format too, have an informational text with comprehension and grammar questions followed by an extension task, are about the following people or topics:
The NO PREP informational text activities are ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade. The resources, which also come in PDF format, allow students to learn key facts about the famous people or topics whilst working on their comprehension skills.

5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.
40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

World Cultures Where Am I Visiting? Europe Edition | NO PREP Worksheet

This is a great option for early finishers, review over Europe, an assignment that can be left for a substitute, or a worksheet that can be quickly copied and distributed to students when you're in a pinch.
The students will use the clues to figure out which European country they are visiting.
I designed this with the intention that students do online research and have access to a map of the region.

This activity concerning the Preamble of the Constitution is a quick review for students. Great for early finishers, bell ringers, or test review.
Students will review the phrases in the Preamble of the Constitution and place them in the correct order by numbering them. As students number the phrases correctly, a meme will be revealed. So, the activity is self-checking.

Students will complete an activity making connects between the Declaration of Independence Grievances and the Bill of Rights. In the activity, students will be presented with a grievance and will have to enter the number of the Amendment it inspired.

Students enjoy this engaging activity to practice telling the region of the colony when given the colonies' name. Colonies are listed alphabetically, students enter either New England, Middle, or Southern as the region to which the colony belongs.
Students have fun revealing the picture created using correct answers. The extra challenge is that correct spelling is necessary for the image to be revealed.
Self-checking as image is revealed by correct answers.

Ancient Kush (Nubia) Trade Game

Review the trade products of Kush (Nubia):
Students will play a game while reviewing the trade resources of the Kingdom of Kush (Nubia). They will be engaged with a partner or group while trying to have a successful trade career.
This can be completed as a physical game or a digital game. Both games will require the teacher to provide a 6-sided die. The print game will require the teacher to provide game pawns for each student.
Follow up questions increase rigor and allows students to create connections to their own lives.
Aligns with Indiana Social Studies Standard: 6.G.4. and 6th grade Studies Weekly Week 8.

Students will research the different occupational uses for social studies specifically in from the lenses (the fields) of:
Students will use their research to write a supporting question from the point of view of their assigned lens. This is great practice to find the usefulness of social studies along a variety of fields. Students will be given a compelling question dealing with indigenous peoples in the United States from which to craft their supporting question.
Students will also be able to put their own stamp on their infographic by adding creative touches. This is true for both the print and digital version of this activity.
Follow up questions are great for early finishers, written assignment, or class discussion.

Timeline: Battles that Continued after Yorktown- 5th Studies Weekly Week 26

The Surrender was not the end:
Students will explore the fact that although Cornwallis surrendered, the Revolutionary War did not end. They will research major events that occurred between the surrender and the British and Loyalists evacuating from America.
Students are given dates and events. They will have to manipulate (either with paper or digitally) the events to match the dates given on the timeline.

Practice making inferences while studying Ancient Egypt:
Students will use clues provided on a timeline to determine which Ancient Egyptian Era is being described. Teachers could choose to allow students to use references to help complete the timeline.
This is a great review activity that would be best completed with a partner or small group. Students need to practice how to make inferences and this is a great way to do that.
Students can complete the timeline as a cut and paste activity or a digital Google Slide activity. Follow up questions increase rigor and help students make connections.

Determine between fact and opinion:
Being able to determine between fact and opinion is an important skill especially when it comes to researching a topic. Students will practice this skill and color an image based on which statements are facts and which are opinions.
This activity can be used for individual students, partners, groups, or as centers. The digital version is easy to assign and self checking.
Rigor is added through the follow up questions. These help students reflect on the importance of recognizing if statements are facts or opinions. These can be assigned to early finishers, as a written assignment, or used as class discussion starters.

Teachers will have three different approaches to choose from to complete this project concerning the regional dwellings of Indigenous People of North America. Students will research an assigned region in order to complete a project concerning family dwellings. Directions are provided for models, posters, or Google Slides.
Students will answer questions concerning their research and reach conclusions based on their information. These questions increases rigor.
Students will have an opportunity to present the information gained with their classmates.

Students will get up and move in this review of their knowledge of the Bill of Rights. They will determine which Amendment of the Bill of Rights is being described. Students will be presented with a right and will have to choose which of four choices of Amendments. The students choose their answers by moving to a corner labeled with the number of their choice.

Famous Photographers - Research & Presentation Project | Distance Learning

In this lesson, students learn about famous photographers and their work. Students choose a photographer of interest (on their own or from a provided list) and then research specific information about them, creating a presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides. Teacher and student resources are provided for the lesson, along with full instructions and project expectation, including a grading rubric. A list of famous photographers is included separately for student choice (or students can choose a photographer of interest on their own). Two versions of the lesson are included to let teachers decide if they prefer to have students use the more traditional presentation tools of Microsoft Office or Google Slides or, if they prefer to give students a choice of those and various free Web 2.0 tools such as Prezi, eMaze, or Canva. Links for tutorials are provided for all suggested software choices in the student resources.
Perfect for business, art, history, social studies or career exploration classes. This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in any secondary classroom.
