• The Great Depression, which began with the stock market crash on 'Black Thursday' on the 24th October 1929
• The famous artist, Pablo Picasso, who was born on the 25th October 1881
• The Microsoft founder and multi-billionaire, Bill Gates, who was born on the 28th October 1955
• The Italian dictator, Benito Mussolini, who came to power on the 29th October 1922
• Muhammed Ali, who defeated George Foreman in the Rumble in the Jungle on the 30th October 1974
• The World War 2 key events of Dunkirk & the Battle of Britain, which ended on the 31st October 1940
• Abraham Lincoln, who was elected as president on the 6th November 1860.
• The famous scientist, Marie Curie, who was born on the 7th November 1867.
• The Japanese Emperor, Hirohito, who was crowned as Emperor on the 10th November 1928.
• The end of World War 1, which ended on the 11th November 1918, and the Treaty of Versailles that followed.
• The famous French artist, Claude Monet, who was born on the 14th November 1840.
• The English monarch, Elizabeth I, who became queen at the age of just 25, on the 17th November 1558.
• American president, John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated on the 22nd November 1963.
• The settlement of the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving, which took place on the 25th November 1621.
• Egyptian pharaoh**, Tutankhamun**, whose tomb was discovered by Howard Carter on the 26th November 1922.
• The British war time prime minister, Winston Churchill, who was born on the 30th November 1874.
• Rosa Parks, who was arrested on the 1st December 1955 for refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus; the event gave birth to the U.S. Civil Rights Movement.
• The Japanese attack on the U.S. naval base, Pearl Harbor, which took place on the 7th December 1941 and brought America into World War II.
• George Washington, the first American president who died at the age of sixty-seven on the 14th December 1799.

• Isaac Newton, the famous English scientist, who was born on the 25th December 1642.

Students will do a close read of "Phenomenal Woman" by Maya Angelou and "All the Single Ladies" by Beyonce looking for the key ideas and details, as well as the themes of both pieces. Students will also be asked to compare and contrast both works. Comes complete with answer key.

The excerpt from "Once Upon a Time When We Were Colored" by Clifton L. Taulbert appears in my school's 8th grade red McDougal Littell textbook. This product instructs students to read and annotated a xeroxed copy of the text. Then they have 6 text-based questions to answer in complete sentence that ask them to analyze the text. Students read two Common Lit articles and observe/analyze images related to the Great Depression and Migrant workers (Links to all images and articles are provided - actual articles are NOT included. only links).

Students will observe, read, analyze, and make evidence-based inferences related to the Great Depression and the lives of migrant workers. Students will then use these texts (articles and images) to make connections to the characters / events in the book Of Mice and Men. The graphic organizers require students to cite evidence from both the articles, images, and the book to support their analysis, conclusions, and observations.

✅ The two graphic organizers contain the same information, but one of them is differentiated for lower-level students.

✅ The differentiated version graphic organizer includes paraphrased, step-by-step instructions as well as examples of how to think about the information they observed in the images and read in the articles.
