Students will learn about birds' different adaptations to help them survive the cold winter months. The quest takes place at Cornell University's Lab of Ornithology. They can work with partners (I find students are most engaged this way) to learn about different adaptations as you act as the facilitator. It is also perfect for individual distance learning.

The “Excelling with Excel” Beginner Lessons start students with no previous knowledge of Microsoft Excel on a path of learning the most important and frequently used commands to give them a quick start. Introduction to Adobe Photoshop gives students a step-by-step tutorial to learn the beginning commands of Adobe Photoshop. After following the instruction (screen shots are included), students combine their “before” and “after” pictures into a simple PowerPoint (or Google Slides) to make grading easy. Finally, students complete a short creative activity to demonstrate their understanding of their learning. Additional links to other tutorials are also included in the lesson to assist learners, as needed. Instructions are for the paid PC version of Adobe Photoshop CC (2014 or 15), but are easily modifiable for Apple/MAC computers. This lesson was created for 8th grade students but is appropriate for any age group just starting out with Adobe Photoshop.

This is a two week unit that introduces Scratch and includes a cluminating activity. Students will learn the basics of Scratch coding and then show off their knowledge with a Scratch animation based on a story that they create.

Coding - Students learn to code objects in Scratch! Animations, backgrounds, letters, characters, scenery...they learn how to insert and animate all of these different objects.

Writing - Students will write a one page fairy tale and then animate the fairy tale using Scratch! they learn how to use the screen record tool in PowerPoint to bring their fairy tale into their slide show.

Sharing - We take a day or two where everyone loads their fairy tale on the computers and we walk around reading & watching everyone's fairy tales.

You may have had students screaming and banging their heads on their desk when their Movie Maker project opened up and all they saw were yellow "!" What to do? Well, here is a PowerPoint that will alleviate those issues before you begin. I've been using this for years and when students come in from other classes (I'm the Tech teacher) saying they are having issues, I show them this and they leave with the problems corrected. This PowerPoint sums up the issues and offers a solution that will prevent them from happening!!

Redesign a Bedroom using Microsoft Excel gives students an opportunity to research items to totally redesign their bedroom and then, working with a given budget, to create a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet budget of those items. This is a great project to do with students who have a beginning knowledge of Microsoft Excel to reinforce those skills. It can also be used successfully with students who have no knowledge of Microsoft Excel if it is preceded by some basic tutorials (links included below). This project was designed to also build skills in Internet research, reading, writing and critical thinking.

The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be adapted for younger or older students.

Welcome to Engineering and Technology! Before we begin to see how engineering and technology affect our lives on a daily basis, let’s look at what is encompassed under the CTAE (Career, Technical and Agricultural Education) umbrella. We are going to do this by looking at a CTAE Pathway at the college level vs. a Math/Science Pathway at the college level. We are going to look at Kennesaw State University’s programs in several of these categories. Since KSU’s merger with Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Technology, this is a great place to look at several college options in each of these pathways.
