Directions

• The vocabulary self-awareness chart allows students to assess themselves on class vocabulary words.
• In my classroom, we chose our words from the words students have come across in their reading.
• Students write the vocabulary words, determine how well they know the word (checking a checkbox in the correct column), and type any notes or definitions they have for the word.
• Simply duplicate the chart in Google Sheets when you are ready for students to make a new self-awareness chart over new content you are learning so that students can keep a log.

Seventh graders can concentrate better on enhancing the skills they started to cultivate in 6th grade without the extra pressure of adapting to the new middle school setting. In particular, 7th grade students focus on scrutinizing texts more thoroughly and utilizing details from the text to formulate ideas, conduct analysis, and draw inferences.

This file contains directions on how to write a found poem, and requires students to write one for a book they are reading independently. The students will choose a passage in their novel that they'd like to summarize using a found poem, then they identify words and phrases from the text that they'll incorporate.It includes the directions, a writer's checklist, a reflection for the students to complete after their poem, and a question at the end that requires them to switch poems with a partner where they have to summarize the section of text their partner wrote about. If they can, their partner's poem was successful in summarizing the text! If not, their partner should go back and revise.
