The passages in the Task Cards and Tests have been selected from the following books:
*******************************
DESCRIPTION
Students always need additional support in mastering the skill of inferencing. You can use these four sets of 16 Novel Multiple-Choice Inference Task Cards to help students practice making inferences.
Students do NOT need any background knowledge (or need to have read the books) to answer these Inference Multiple-Choice Questions! The passages were carefully selected, so students can make general inferences whether they have read the books or not. :-)
*******************************
EACH OF THE SIX NOVELS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
Task Cards and Task Card ANSWER KEYS (and Student Answer Sheet)
The first set of Inference Task Cards for each novel consists of a short selection/passage from the book followed by an inference-based question. There are four multiple choice answers that students choose from. Students read the passage and choose the correct answer. Students will need to pay close attention to details to choose the correct answer. The inference questions are centered around character traits, character relationships, and situations.
The second set of 16 Inference Task Cards for each novel is the actual “Answer Key” set of the first set of Task Cards. The Task Card Answer Keys highlight the correct multiple-choice answer in the color red and highlights relevant evidence that supports the correct answer in the color yellow.
This is engaging practice for your students as it is perfect for mini-lessons, whole class instruction, cooperative learning, intervention groups, literacy centers, and small group instruction.
Inference Tests and ANSWER KEYS (Print and Digital)
Inference Graphic Organizer (Print and Digital)
Inference Bookmarks
Suggestions on how you can use the Multiple-Choice Inference Task Cards:
1. Quiz or Test - You can make a copy of the set of Task Cards and distribute to each student as a quiz or test. You, as the teacher , can then select the Task Card Inference question that students performed the lowest on and use that to review and develop/modify your instruction.
2. Small Group Instruction - You can have students engage in small group instruction where you provide additional support on the skill of inferencing. These Inference Task Cards will support that type of instruction. You can have all students in small groups practice with the same inference task card question number or you can distribute 1-2 Task Cards to each student to practice, then review.
3. Mini Lesson - You can load these Inference Task Cards on the Smartboard and use them to demonstrate how to make an inference. They can also be used to discuss the importance of details and how they are used to encourage inferential thinking. You can even use these Task Cards to discuss the difference between relevant details and irrelevant details. Finally, you can use these Inference Task Cards during the guided practice portion of your lesson.
4. Formative Assessment / Exit Slips - These Inference Task Cards make a great, quick formative assessment! You can easily check for understanding by distributing 1-2 Task Cards to each student to complete. You can circulate the room to do a "Quick Check" to see if students "Got it." You can also use these Task Cards as Exit Slips by distributing 1-2 Task Cards to each student to complete and hand in to you before they leave.
5. Partner Study - You can have students pair up and “test each other.” Partners not only ask each other to choose the correct multiple-choice answer, but to highlight or underline specific details in the selection/passage to support their inference-based answer. The Answer Key set of Task Cards are helpful in the sense that students can take ownership of reviewing the correct answers and sharing that with their partners**.**
6. Test Prep Review - You can use these Task Cards to review how to answer multiple-choice questions. You can also use these cards to teach students a variety of multiple-choice strategies (process of elimination, context clues, textual evidence, tone, etc.) to help them select the right answers to questions and aid comprehension.

Lately, upsetting things have been happening in the world and our students are very much aware of them. Tens of thousands of people have protested on the streets to make their voices heard about all kinds of issues that students care about including racism, inequality, policing, discrimination, etc. Protests have spread across the nation and seem to rival the historic demonstrations of the Civil Rights Movement. It is important for us to bring these topics into our classrooms—because students want to be part of the conversation and share their thoughts and feelings about the very issues that affect them.

✅ Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate the difference between "real" and "fake" friends responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to demonstrate how to appropriately handle or navigate difficult situations related to friends/friendships. Students will be exposed to a variety of ways they can handle or respond to "fake" friends in certain situations. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.

Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios/ situations as well as their explanations to whether or not the friends are real or fake (in these situations).
✅ Discussion: Students can discuss the Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class. They can discuss things like "Is this person a real or fake friend - why or why not?" "What ELSE would a real friend do or say in this situation?", "How can you respectfully handle this situation?" “Why would you do that?”, and “What are some other options you could consider in terms of what you would do or say to a 'friend' like this?"

Negative thoughts have a profound effect on students’ academic and social successes, behaviors, emotions, self-esteem, and happiness. Toxic and inconsiderate behaviors involve creating drama, dragging people down, manipulating or controlling others, being needy and making it all about you, using others to meet your personal needs, and being critical and judgmental of one’s self and others. These toxic and inconsiderate behaviors ultimately lead to negative effects including, but not limited to, holding people back from being happy, peaceful, and productive, causing unwelcoming feelings like stress, anger, depression, and sadness, which ultimately can harm one’s health, affect relationships, and overall sense of well-being. Many students (and adults) are oblivious to the toxic and inconsiderate behaviors and interactions they have with people in their lives.
⭐ This resource includes 64 HIGHLY RELEVANT scenarios that exposes students to the wide range of toxic and inconsiderate behaviors that not only surround them, but that they experience everyday from people they interact with.
⭐ The scenarios can be used to help students identify which toxic and inconsiderate behaviors are actually present in their lives, help them explore their own roles in toxic interactions, build awareness of it, and practice using strategies to navigate toxic and inconsiderate behaviors.
▶️ 64 SCENARIO TASK CARDS (in FOUR variations)
✅ This resource includes 64 Toxic/Inconsiderate Behaviors Scenario Task Cards with questions and without questions (both Colored and B&W).
✅ The Scenario Task Cards include questions that encourages students to think about the root causes for toxic behaviors. For example, students are asked to think about the most likely reasons why the people in the scenarios may be portraying negative, toxic and inconsiderate behaviors, attitudes, and habits and how they can deal with or navigate through these situations effectively.
✅ By understanding the root causes for toxic behaviors, attitudes, and habits, students can practice building their social awareness and empathy skills and respond appropriately, rather than in such a way that can cause potential problems.
✅ These Task Cards can be used as part of a larger lesson, in guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner discussion before sharing out with the larger group or class, or even one-on-one with a teacher, guidance counselor, or parent/guardian! ✅ You can print the Task Cards out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate. You may also organize them in a binder ring.

From the perspective of our students, understanding and interacting with us can be quite challenging, if not downright frustrating! In candid conversations, I've heard students express sentiments like, "Teachers seem to punish the whole class for the actions of one person," "Even though I have anxiety and struggle to speak, they insist on making me present in front of everyone," "Their lessons can be dull, and then they wonder why we zone out," "Sometimes they single me out, even when I haven't volunteered," and "They expect maturity but treat us like children." These grievances are just the tip of the iceberg. Despite our best intentions, our actions and words can often lead to frustration among our students, influencing their behavior, responses, and thoughts.
This resource enables teachers to gain insight into our students' perspectives on specific situations through real-life, everyday scenarios, and vice versa! Students also have the chance to reflect on and understand teachers' viewpoints in these situations.
One buyer stated, "This is great for helping my students practice conflict resolution when an authority figure like a teacher is involved!"
This resource presents everyday, real-life scenarios that help students develop skills for effective interaction with teachers. It aims to foster positive relationships, manage conflicts, enhance social skills and behavior, and, importantly, build confidence in handling emotions when faced with situations where teachers say or do things they find challenging. Through reflections and discussions on these scenarios, students can learn the value of recognizing and understanding various perspectives, enabling them to respond thoughtfully. They will also grasp that the tone and manner of communication can either promote harmony or create tension between teachers and students.
Moreover, this resource provides opportunities for students to:
✅ Gain insight into the motives behind teachers' actions and words.
✅ Engage with teacher situations maturely and respectfully.
✅ Explore diverse problem-solving strategies.
✅ Hone their skills in respectful communication.
✅ Reflect on their own actions and behaviors, considering how they influence teacher responses.
✅ Offer constructive suggestions to teachers for alternative approaches.
✅ Learn to negotiate and find compromises with teachers.
✅ Foster stronger and more positive relationships with teachers.
*******************************
This resource focuses on 44 common, real-life scenarios and issues that students encounter daily. It comprises 176 worksheets centered on these scenarios, each designed to prompt students to consider effective navigation strategies and practice respectful and appropriate responses.
The worksheets are available in four variations, including both print and digital formats.
✅ Worksheet Variation #1: Includes scenario with 3 questions
✅ Worksheet Variation #2: Includes scenario with 2 questions

Social cues encompass the signals individuals convey through their body language and expressions. Many students experiencing challenges with social skills struggle to interpret these cues from facial expressions, gestures, and overall body language. When young people miss these cues, they risk misunderstanding people and situations. Recognizing and interpreting social cues effectively can enhance students' confidence, prepare them for various interactions, help them understand their surroundings, respond appropriately to situations, navigate uncomfortable scenarios, and, crucially, prevent potential conflicts.
✅ This resource features 40 real-life, highly relevant scenarios, offering students ample opportunities to practice interpreting social cues, making inferences, and responding appropriately.
✅ Moreover, this resource is available in Google Slides! Text boxes have been pre-set to facilitate ease of use for both educators and students. Each slide includes two instructional solution tabs, aiding students in case of accidental deletion of text boxes and providing a zoom-in feature for enlarging worksheets. This feature is particularly beneficial for students who may not be familiar with Google Slides or require additional assistance.

✅ Incorporate these Task Cards into larger lessons, guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner interactions before sharing with the class, or individual sessions with a teacher, guidance counselor, or parent/guardian! The Task Cards feature the same scenarios found in the Scenario Worksheets.
✅ Print the Task Cards on gloss or regular paper, laminate them for durability, and consider organizing them on a binder ring for easy access and use.

Many of our students with learning and attention issues have difficulty reading body language. Failure to pick up on non-verbal signals, including body language and gestures, can make it hard for students or children to navigate all sorts of social situations. Body language and gestures convey messages, meaning, and important information beyond what is said. This resource is intended to help students "read" body language and navigate social situations successfully. It is also intended to provide students with opportunities to practice social skills by reading and responding to people’s body languages and gestures in an appropriate, positive manner.
▶️ 12 Scenario Task Cards
The Scenario Task Cards contain highly relevant scenarios related to body language. Students are asked what the person's body language is communicating and what it indicates the person might be feeling.
There are 12 Scenario Task Cards that come in FOUR different variations:
► Set #1: Brown Task Cards with Questions
► Set #2: Brown Task Cards without Questions
► Set #3: B&W Task Cards with Questions
► Set #4: B&W Task Cards without Questions

(This is a perfect opportunity for your students to practice social skills and empathy!)
► Worksheet Variation #2: Contains two questions about what would be an appropriate response in the situation presented, and what would be an inappropriate response in the situation presented. (Another great opportunity for your students to practice social skills and empathy!)
► Worksheet Variation #3: Contains the same scenarios with a blank space for you to generate your own question and students write it on the line and answer it.

► Picture Worksheet Variation #1: Contains two questions about the message the person’s body language is sending, and how the person is feeling. In this worksheet, students have to provide evidence to support their answer about how the person in the picture might be feeling.
► Picture Worksheet Variation #2: A blank space is provided for you to generate your own question and students write it on the line and answer it.
This resource provides a perfect opportunity for your students to understand social cues, interpret body language, practice social skills, and make inferences. This resource features real life scenarios and highly relevant photographs of people. Students with autism spectrum disorders often have the most difficult time with these skills and can benefit greatly from the visuals.

DESCRIPTION
TASK CARDS (32)
✅ These Short Story Inference Task Cards allow students to make inferences based on the details in the short passages. After making inferences, students are then required to specify relevant evidence from the passages to support their inferences/ideas. Students will need to pay close attention to details to make valid inferences.
✅ You can use this set of 32 Inference Task Cards to help students practice making inferences. These Short Story Inference Task Cards include a short passage with the following two questions at the bottom of each passage:
1. What can you infer from this selection?
2. What clues helped you infer that?
SHORT STORY INFERENCE WORKSHEETS WITH QUESTIONS (Print and Digital)
✅ The Short Story Inference Worksheets include PDF and Google Slide versions. They contain the same story/passage that are in the Inference Task Cards followed by three inference-based questions. Students are required to support their inferences with relevant details/evidence.
✅ The inference questions are centered around characters’ feelings, traits, relationships, and situations. All these short stories are realistic and relevant!
✅ This is engaging practice for your students as it is perfect for Mini-Lessons, Whole Class Instruction, Cooperative Learning, Intervention Groups, Literacy Centers, Small Group Instruction, and Homework.
✅ These worksheets can be used as quick Formative Assessments!
ANSWER KEY INFERENCE WORKSHEETS WITH QUESTIONS (32)
✅ This packet includes suggested responses for each question. The answer keys provide a variety of possible inferences that can be made from the passages and e_vidence_ to support those specific inferences.
SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO USE THE SHORT STORY INFERENCE TASK CARDS
Quiz or Test - You can distribute a copy of the Inference Task Cards (one or more task cards at a time), OR you can distribute one Short Story Inference Worksheet to each student to complete and count as a quiz or test. You, as the teacher, can then select the inference story number that students performed the lowest on or appeared to have difficulty making inferences with and use that to review or reteach the skill.
Small Group Instruction - You can have students engage in small group instruction where you provide additional support on the skill of inferencing. These Inference Task Cards will support that type of instruction. You can have all students in small groups practice with the same Inference Task Card story number or you can distribute 1-2 Task Cards to each student to practice, then review.
Mini Lesson - You can load these Inference Task Cards (or Inference stories) on the Smartboard and use them to demonstrate how to make an inference. They can also be used to discuss the importance of details and how they are used to support inferential thinking. You can even use these Inference Short Stories to discuss the difference between relevant details and irrelevant details. Finally, you can use these Short Story Inference Task Cards during the Guided Practice portion of your lesson.
Exit Slips - You can use these Task Cards as Exit Slips by distributing one Inference Worksheet (Remember, there are 32 of them!) to each student to complete and hand in to you before they leave.
Partner Study - You can have students pair up and “test each other.” Partners not only ask each other to make valid inferences, but to highlight or underline specific details in the selection/passage to support their inference-based answers and ideas.
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT - Excellent for Formative Assessments! These quick and "to-the-point" Short Story Inference Worksheets can be used to see if students "got it." It can be done mid-lesson. You will be able to walk around the classroom and determine whether or not students have mastered the skill or understood the lesson just from a quick glance!
