In this activity, they must choose between 7 different quotes about history and articulate why the quote aligns with their own perspective. Use this lesson every year to set the tone for what you expect in class; it is a great way to gain insight about your students' current attitudes toward history while getting to know one another with a higher level thinking activity. We have also recently added a digital version of the History Talk worksheet to support distance learning and cut down on paper.

This resource is a 5th grade or 6th grade discussion based writing unit discussing who was the most influential Allied leader of World War II: Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin or Franklin Roosevelt. The unit has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each. The Google Slides activity is ideal for distance learning and perfect for students learning about World History or World War 2.

The first lesson involves students retrieving facts from informational texts about Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin and Franklin Roosevelt, and typing these on to an included fact sheet. In the second lesson students need to use these facts to write three to four paragraphs about the individual Allied leaders. In the third lesson students need to use prompt sheets to write up an introduction and a conclusion. Greatest Roman Leader Opinion Writing Unit Digital & Print | 5th & 6th Grade

This resource is a 5th grade or 6th grade discussion based writing unit discussing who was the greatest leader of Ancient Rome: Julius Caesar, Augustus or Constantine. The unit has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each. The Google Slides activity is ideal for distance learning and perfect for students learning about World History or Ancient Civilisations.

The first lesson involves students retrieving facts from informational texts about Julius Caesar, Augustus and Constantine, and typing these on to an included fact sheet. In the second lesson students need to use these facts to write three to four paragraphs about the individual Roman leaders. In the third lesson students need to use prompt sheets to write up an introduction and a conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before typing up their work using the template provided.

About Mesopotamia Escape Room: 6th Grade Studies Weekly Week 4

Engaging Review of Mesopotamia:

Students will be complete engaging activities about Mesopotamia. They can work with a partner, a team, or by themselves to complete activities focused on five Mesopotamian topics: societies written in cuneiform, Hanging Gardens of Babylonia, the Code of Hammurabi, geography, and timeline of events in Mesopotamia. Each activity begins with a short informational text and student instructions.

Students will complete the following types of activities:

  • matching
  • maze
  • puzzle
  • code breaking
  • map skills
  • timeline

Teachers can choose to have students check their work after they finish each challenge in order to earn parts of a puzzle. Completed puzzles could be turned in for prizes. There is also a completed prize card provided.

Students can work at their own pace as teachers have topic labels which can be displayed throughout the classroom to show students where to find their next challenge.

When the challenge is complete, students can complete follow up questions to review the About Mesopotamia Escape Room. The questions review what students have learned as well as having students make connections with prior their knowledge. These could be used as written assignments or to lead class discussion.
