Rhythm Clockout! (Rhythm Dictation AGAINST THE CLOCK!)
By Jason Litt
Looking for something challenging for your 4th and 5th graders (or even early middle schoolers?) This game is fast paced and has these kids racing to dictate what they hear in a new game called "Rhythm Clockout!"
In this lesson, students will hear a 4 to 6 beat rhythm (with 8 preparatory beats) followed by a 3, 5, 7, or 9 second timer immediately following the rhythm. As soon as that timer begins (or even before for some of your advanced kids), have the students dictate what they heard before the timer runs out!
You can do this one of a few ways
In all of these examples are quarter rests, half notes, eighth notes, and quarter notes. You can use the printouts included to print your own and cut them up, or even use your class set
There are 22 examples in this one with the electric guitar leading the melodic figures for the kids to notate. Most are around 100-120bpm, but some advanced ones go a bit faster
Lesson pro tip:
Wanna challenge the kids? Have a team vs team, kid vs kid, A vs B, etc and see who can get the most right (percentage of right notes) or even the right answer before the timer ends
Have a great time with this one, my upper elementary kids get super psyched!
MUSIC ESCAPE ROOM - Instruments and Instrument Families
By Jason Litt
Looking for a fun, exciting, challenging, and engaging way to reach students in your upper elementary or lower middle school grades? Try this all-inclusive lesson that will get your kids racing against the clock and each other with The Great Escape!
In “THE GREAT ESCAPE”, students will be given a specific amount of time to perform tasks successfully (as designed by the teacher). Each one of these tasks is a musical task and the theme for this escape room are the notes of the treble clef staff.
There are five rooms, and in each room are several "tasks" students will have to perform (either individually, as a class, A vs B, side by side, or however you wish). As soon as the task is completed, advance the slide for the correct answer (the teacher will control the game).
After a certain number of tasks, a key will be issued to exit the room and head into another room with a different set of tasks.
The five rooms and tasks are as follows:
If students complete all tasks and open the door to all five rooms they win the game!
You can play this one of four ways
If you would like music to accompany this to make it a bit more engaging, try using this in the background:
Escape Room Background Music
Have a terrific time with this and let us know how it goes!

Geography Pre-assessment/Post-assessment Beginning of Year (Easel Act. Included)
By Geography & Math Made Easy
This 80+ question assessment is a great way to evaluate what your students know going into the school year, what they have learned during the first semester as well as what knowledge and skills they have gained by the end of the school year.
Why waste precious time creating a thorough and effective test when it has already been done for you? Use this clean and well-put-together assessment over and over again throughout the school year to assess your students.
Comes with questions, a student answer sheet, and a teacher's key. Covers a wide variety of concepts such as map and graph reading, culture, government, economics, basic map reading skills, and religion. Took 8 hours to compile the test.
To save paper, make a class copy of the test and print out an answer sheet, one for each student. Have students write their name on the back of the last page of the test booklet just in case it is written in.
Please note: if you find this test is long for your group of students, please know that by modifying it (copying and pasting it to a new Word document the questions you wish for your students to answer), I do not consider this breach of copyright for any of my lessons. I expect that all teachers will modify, to a point, my resources to meet their students' needs and abilities. This assessment is "thorough" in order to give you an accurate understanding of what your students already know. It was created for the purpose of using itat the beginning of the year, mid-year, and end-of-year to measure what your students have learned.

Geography Game: Around The World (Countries and Continents)
By Geography & Math Made Easy
Fun and exciting for all Ages - Middle School through High School
What a great way to review the geographical location of countries you study throughout the year! Students absolutely love countiries and continents Around the World game so much that they are disappointed that class is over. This world geography game has been played with my students throughout the year, usually at the later part of the year or end of the year, to reinforce students' recall of countries' geographical locations. As the intructor, I couldn't wait to play it with my students because I knew how much fun learning was going to be!
It is important for students to have a basic geographical understanding of the world around them. This game requires students to challenge each other by identifying the continents of each country presented.
Example: On which continent does Malaysia lie? On which continent does Madagascar lie? The student that is able to recall the location, moves on to travel "Around the World". This game moves quickly so that students are constantly involved and eager to participate, cheering one another on.
My students were required to learn where each country was located through study and map quizzes. It is important that students be able to identify the geographical location of each country so when they read/watch about current events, they have a geographical understanding of where the event is occurring in the world. Yes, they can always look it up, but are they going to?
Once you prepare the cards you can use them year after year.

Geography, World Religions Task Card Cooperative Activity
By Geography & Math Made Easy
This lesson is easy enough for 5th graders to understand yet works well with students up to 12th grade. Modifications can be made as needed.
Need a great lesson to review or introduce world religions to your students that they will enjoy? Get students up, moving, and learning!
This lesson addresses the following religions:
It also addresses concepts such as:
Students will work in cooperative groups and will rotate from one station to the next exploring the different aspects of world religions.
As an introductory activity, it would be helpful to have books available at each station or Internet access, so that students have an outlet to research the question posed.
As a review activity, simply have students rotate from one station to the other answering the review questions.
This allows students to collaborate to discuss and come to a conclusion on the answer. Students will not be left on their own but will have the opportunity to learn from their classmates. This lesson also incorporates movement in the classroom rather than asking them to remain in their seats for the hour-long or more class period.

Bloom's Taxonomy Stems & Guiding Questions for Social Studies and Geography
By Geography & Math Made Easy
As teachers, we always need additional resources to help make planning easier. Through the years, I have compiled this list of Bloom's Taxonomy action verbs, stems, and sample questions to assist in planning for Geography and Social Studies lessons. There are a series of questions and stems for knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. It is always nice to have this handy to refer to while planning.
Using Bloom's Taxonomy allows you to ascertain if your students have a basic understanding, yet allows you to raise the bar in developing guiding questions via cognitive, psychomotor & affective domains.
INCLUDES
This is a great resource for beginning teachers as they develop their student's high-level thinking skills.
