My students struggle when we start factoring with a=1 or a>1 to find the numbers that would fit the requirements. This guides students in this process. Algebraic substitution is not very exciting at best. Finding a formula that always generates prime numbers will make you world famous. This task card combines the two math skills into an exciting discovery exercise. Students get to explore the effectiveness of certain formulas in generating primes (while they are doing lots of substitution). Eventually they will see that this exercise is futile, but will hopefully have fun on the journey.

"The Answers Are..." is a great Non-Curricular Thinking Task your secondary math students can all access, no matter their skill level. Each task card gives a number bank with 10 integers and 5 target answers your students must create. Using each number in the bank only one time each, students work in random teams of three to create all 5 expressions by adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. It's more challenging than you might think!

Integer operations Picture Puzzles- Students solve problems using the four operations with positive and negative numbers. The solutions to these problems create a mystery picture when the lines between the answers are connected in the correct order.

There are two different activities- one for addition/subtraction and one for multiplication/division.

Students can self-check and make corrections while completing this activity, which prevents them from completing an entire assignment before realizing they do not understand a concept.
