It’s essential that young people develop empathy for those who are different to them. This resource examines the short story of a teenage boy who transitioned to a female. Although he had shown multiple signs throughout the school year that he was born a male, but had no intention to live as one, he encountered scrutiny, bullying, unacceptance, and rejection. Readers are left with a better understanding of how lack of empathy, kindness, and acceptance can affect an LGBTQ+ individual's emotions, feelings, and sense of being.

Many LGBTQ+ students will find themselves struggling with the unknown. The way in which students respond to LGBTQ+ identities and relationships could provide key support and understanding for their peers. Within our classrooms, we may have teens who are discovering their own sexual identity. Setting SMART Goals is a lesson that helps students identify and plan goals for school or their personal life by utilizing the SMART method of goal planning (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely). This is a great lesson to start off a new semester or a new year.

In these lessons, students are provided with an introduction to the goals methodology and suggested resources for whole class activities are included to introduce the lessons. Next, students brainstorm with a small group and then work individually to craft their own individual goal. This project was created for middle school students but would easily be adaptable to any age group.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

There are a total of 30 CBT (cognitive behavior therapy) based Growth and Fixed Mindset Scenario Cards which all include a variety of relatable and realistic scenarios for students to discuss and reflect upon. These scenarios explore a number of realistic situations in which the student is encouraged to explore whether the situation illustrates a growth or fixed mindset.

There are 15 scenarios which illustrate a fixed mindset and 15 scenarios which illustrate a growth mindset.

This is a great exercise to also explore and reinforce the importance of a growth mindset.
