Adapted Reading & Writing Assessment Pre-Primer - Third Grade

This product can be used with students as an informal/formal adapted assessment. Students will be required to identify the pre-primer, primer, 1st grade,2nd grade, and/or 3rd grade Dolch sight words. If students begin at the pre-primer level and are able to identify a specific amount of each section of sight words, they are going to be ranked as independent, instructional, or frustration when identifying those sight words. Students are then provided with a sentence or brief comprehension passage for each Dolch sight word list. The questions and short passages have been adapted and shortened compared to other reading assessments so baseline data can be collected, especially with those students are struggling. This will help gauge where students need the most support in terms of identifying sight words, reading simple sentences/passages, and answering comprehension questions that relate with what is read.

Each inference-based question can be treated as an extended response where students must make inferences and support their responses, ideas, and/or analysis with evidence from the text.
► There is a "combo" worksheet, which includes all five questions on two pages. There are also 5 separate worksheets that include the same questions on a different worksheet. This allows for more extensive responses. You can have students either complete all five inference-based questions on the "combo" worksheet all at once OR you can have students complete each of the questions at different times: for classwork, independent practice, homework, or formative assessment - your choice! You can even give students different questions depending on their levels - excellent for differentiation.

This is a great holiday book for students, and it also talks about friendship, acceptance, and helping others. The comprehension questions in this product relate with the text and each chapter. Students will have the opportunity to answer both short answer and multiple choice throughout each chapter. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and example sentences are presented in the packet. Students can also write sentences using the vocabulary words. As the book is being read aloud, as students are reading the book or after the book has been read, students can answer the comprehension questions in this packet. Words that students may need help with spelling when answering comprehension questions are provided in this product as well. Each chapters questions are divided up throughout this product. An answer key is included at the end of this product along with comprehension questions that allow students to reflect on the whole book, who their favorite character was, what the plot of the story was, etc.
