This digital student portfolio project for Google Sites is the perfect way to help your students showcase their work in a professional, organized, and user-friendly way. Welcome to Engineering and Technology! Before we begin to see how engineering and technology affect our lives on a daily basis, let’s look at what is encompassed under the CTAE (Career, Technical and Agricultural Education) umbrella. We are going to do this by looking at a CTAE Pathway at the college level vs. a Math/Science Pathway at the college level. We are going to look at Kennesaw State University’s programs in several of these categories. Since KSU’s merger with Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Technology, this is a great place to look at several college options in each of these pathways.

Here's a quick, easy project for your students IF YOU HAVE SOLIDWORKS software in your classroom. These directions take you step by step creating a block, adding text, and cutting the image out to prepare for 3D print.

**If you don't have SOLIDWORKS, these may not work for you.**

Do you want to raise awareness for those in wheelchairs? How do you do that in an engineering class? You find instances where ADA is not being followed and you have your students design a new entry way in CAD! That's what this lesson is all about!! Students are made aware of a local building that does not meet ADA requirements and the owner is being sued. Your students work for an engineering firm. They must, first, research the law. Then they design a new entry way that meets ADA requirements.

This Look Book Project is great to use at the end of the Elements of Design Unit or it can be a continuous working activity for students to work through as you cover each element throughout your unit.

Use: It can be uploaded to google classroom or any other platform that students can access to work on a google slides template. There is a slide with instructions as well as an example slide, and blank slide with the titles of each of the elements that the students need to include in their look book.

Specifics: This activity has the students upload examples of garments that demonstrate the following elements:

• Line
• Shape
• Space
• Color
• Texture

Rubric Included

This project is great for your fashion design students in your entry level class. I usually give my students 10 class days to complete whatever choice they would like to work on from the list. Feel free to give your students whatever timeline fits your lesson plan. I like giving the students choices in case there are students who would like to sketch instead of sewing. No matter what project they choose they are still required to type a paper that discusses the elements and principles of design. Each project has a different set of elements and principles of design that are required for the paper since sometimes it is easier to include certain ones in sewing projects versus sketches.

Prior Knowledge needed:

This project assumes that your class has covered the elements and principles of design but if you have not then feel free to omit that part of the project.

This download includes a rubric as well.

Learning about Animation teaches students the history and basic concepts of animation prior to them creating their own utilizing Adobe Edge Animate. Another animation program could be substituted, but would require some changes to the directions for those portions of the unit.

Students being by doing guided research about the history of animation and presenting their findings in a PowerPoint or Prezi. Next, they learn about the twelve principles of animation by completing a worksheet. There is also a quiz over this material. With this knowledge about animation, students are ready to start creating their own. A short lesson on basic animation in Adobe Edge Animate with students first watching the teacher create a bouncing ball and then completing it themselves from written directions and a tutorial, followed by another practice hands-on activity to add to and reinforce skills, leads to the culminating activity of the unit – to create a cartoon using their skills in Adobe Edge Animate.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

In this lesson, students create fashions of their own using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Paint. Students can also use one of these free Web 2.0 tools: SketchPad (https://sketch.io/sketchpad/) or SumoPaint (https://www.sumopaint.com/home/#app) that do not require download. Two versions of the lesson are included: one is a shorter version to create just one fashion and the other is a longer version to create a fashion line (6-8 items) which are combined into a collage. Depending on the class and the amount of time available, the teacher can choose which version is most appropriate. Both versions include a writing and reflection component to the lesson, giving students the opportunity to consider how they made their design choices. Links to tutorials for the programs are also provided to assist students with their creations. A basic knowledge of Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop is helpful if those programs are being used. However, beginning students can incorporate tutorials with this lesson to successfully learn the program as they create their designs.

This is a great activity for a career exploration class, Principles of Arts, A/V Technology & Communications class, Family & Consumer Sciences, Fashion Design, or any technology class. This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in high school as well.

In this lesson, students learn more about the history of photography. Students choose a time period in history from a provided list, research that era, and then choose the software they will use to showcase their research. Students can choose to create a presentation, a brochure, or a video using Web 2.0 tools such as Prezi, Adobe Spark, eMaze, Canva, etc. (free, no download needed) or by using Microsoft Office or Google Apps. A full list of software/technology options is listed in the student lesson instructions and includes links to tutorials. For classrooms with limited technology, this lesson can be completed with students working in pairs or small groups. The completed presentations can be shared with the rest of the class if the teacher chooses.

The “Physics of Windmills” project utilizes research skills, MS Word, and Sketchup (free CAD software download) to allow students to build skills in those programs along with skills in Internet research, reading, writing and critical thinking. In these projects, students research information about how windmills work and the physics behind them. They create a scale model drawing of a windmill using Sketchup (CAD) and then brainstorm with their team to determine the best design to build from recycled materials. Finally, they reflect on their learning and the dynamics of their team to complete the project.

The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be adapted for younger or older students.

Learning about Marketing Research gives students an introduction to marketing and the ways in which companies utilize data to drive business. This is perfect for a technology, business or marketing class, or a class that focuses on careers. In this lesson, students learn more about the history of fashion design. Students choose a time period in history from a provided list, research that era, and then choose the software they will use to showcase their research. Students can choose to create a presentation, a brochure, or a video using Web 2.0 tools (free, no download needed) or by using Microsoft Office or Google Apps. For classrooms with limited technology, this lesson can be completed with students working in pairs or small groups. The completed presentations can be shared with the rest of the class if the teacher chooses.

This is a great activity for a social studies or history class, career exploration class, Principles of Arts, A/V Technology & Communications class, or any technology class. This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in high school as well.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.
