In this product, students will begin to understand what words mean to others, get students to learn to actively listen to someone telling them information or telling them to complete a task, get students to verbalize more clearly, and get students to effectively communicate. Students will work with a partner by following their partners directions, and after the activity, students will evaluate the easiest part of the activity, hardest part of the activity, and answering the question why communication is important when verbalizing or interacting with others, students will read communication starters using facial expression, intonation, and tone of voice, the importance of using facial expression, intonation, and tone of voice are discussed in depth when having a conversation with others, Examples of different tones of voice are included in this product. Students will practice saying an expression a few different ways so they can understand how tone of voice is important, when we are frustrated or annoyed about something our tone of voice changes as does our intonation and facial expression, therefore, alternative strategies students can implement in their day to day routine are provided for when they feel frustrated, and when talking to others, students will learn that by listening to their conversation partner that they will understand how they are feeling based on their facial expressions, intonation, and tone of voice.

This product can be used for 4th - 8th grade, but can be used for younger or older students depending on maturity and academic level.

This activity allows students to talk and share their experiences in a fun and interactive way. Students will take turns trying to gain points by flipping a bottle upright! When they miss, they have to answer a question and lose a chance at points.

How to Play Bottle Flip

• Place students into random partners and give each set of partners a water bottle to flip
• Print discussion cards for each group
• Have students get out paper for scoring
• The oldest student flips first
• If they flip the bottle and it lands upright, the flipper gets 2 points, and then its their partners turn to flip
• If they flip the bottle and it does not land upright, they have to draw and answer a random question
• If the flipper answers the question, they get one point. If the student does not answer or says “I don’t know,” the OTHER student gets the point and they get to take their turn
• play for 10 minutes and switch partners!

Pull these name tents out during Back to School season to get your new batch of kiddos making connections from day one!

Each name tent is a half page (landscape). Copy on card stock paper to make them stronger. Fold the page in half and stand on the desk. Students fill in the sections and use color to express themselves!

Great activity for the first day of school. While you are busy doing all the things or waiting for everyone to arrive, they have something to keep them busy! The front of the name tent is the All About Me side and offers your students activities to express themselves in unique ways, whether it's circling their likes on the This or That section or designing their own water bottle. AVID Career Debate Activity - Speed Philosophical Chairs for Team Building: Use this career-themed AVID speed philosophical chairs icebreaker activity to promote debate through dialogue and public speaking in your classroom! Students will not only learn what speed philosophical chairs is but they will enjoy some exciting dialogue through 20 fun debate topics.

For example, students will choose to agree or disagree with the statement, "There should be a salary cap for celebrities like athletes and actors."
