This "Thin Slicing" activity on comparing linear functions gets your 8th grade students thinking about linear functions. These progressively challenging task cards start students with simple proportional relationships and progress up to writing a linear function from only two ordered pairs, graphs with differently scaled axes, and tables with minimal information. Students must work together to compare rates of change and initial values for multiple functions, including tables, graphs, equations, and scenarios.

Great as a review activity, or as an introduction to comparing linear functions after your students have learned slope-intercept form.

Hello and welcome!

Are you math teacher and have been thrown into teaching a computer science course? Now you have NO IDEA where to start! Have you taught computer science, but want to try something else? Math and computer science are related, but are not the same!

I have your back. I've been teaching math and computer science, including APCSP, APCSA, and Data Structures for almost two decades. Scratch is a really easy to learn language to learn which makes it perfect for beginners. Block based coding looks very simple at first, but it is just as intricate as a keyed language. The difference is that coders don't need to memorize complex syntax to use it. This makes it perfect for younger kids; but it's still complex enough for older students.

This is part 4 of a semester long programming in Scratch course.

Depending on your style, you could go over the slides as a group, then let students play around. Or you could just give them the slides and assignment and let them go.

Let students explore and make mistakes. Let them talk to each other and discuss their approaches. Programming takes a lot of trial and error and collaboration.

These laws of exponents worksheets include 4 guided notes pages for the product, quotient, power and negative exponent rules as well as 6 practice pages with 142 practice problems. The notes pages include 4 completed examples with an explanation so you can have students see if they can figure out how the rule works without your help. Underneath the 4 completed examples are 8 practice problems for them to prove they understand the rule. With each of the 4 rules is a practice worksheet with 18-22 questions each. This Solving Quadratic Equations Mystery Project will have your students excited to solve quadratic equations! There is a printable and digital version of this project included! They will be solving 36 questions involving quadratic equations. They will get 6 clue sheets with 6 questions on each sheet. The answer choice leftover is the answer to that part of the mystery.
