It involves observing a situation, then using clues with background knowledge to figure out what has happened or what is happening. The ability to make social inferences is an essential social skill. This is a paper based, 4th of July themed resource. Products featured are 4th of July related. Examples of products featured: American flags, red/white/blue clothing, party popper, sparklers, patriotic floats, etc.

DESCRIPTION

▶️ This is an comprehensive Picture Inference Lesson PACKET that includes at least eight activities where students can practice the skill of social inferencing using pictures that are relevant to this day in age. There are a total of 10 pictures that students will use to make inferences. Students have multiple opportunities to observe a social situation and combine picture clues and their background knowledge to figure out what is happening. Students can make inferences about how the people in the pictures are feeling, what they are doing, what they may be thinking, and what situation they may be in.

▶️ This lesson plan will help students learn how to read, interpret, and think about social situations. ALL pictures are age appropriate as you will not hesitate to use any picture during the learning process. After engaging in multiple inferencing activities, students will have the opportunity to reflect on their understanding of the lesson as well as their participation during the learning process. Many of our students with learning and attention issues have difficulty reading body language. Failure to pick up on non-verbal signals, including body language and gestures, can make it hard for students or children to navigate all sorts of social situations. Body language and gestures convey messages, meaning, and important information beyond what is said. This resource is intended to help students "read" body language and navigate social situations successfully. It is also intended to provide students with opportunities to practice social skills by reading and responding to people’s body languages and gestures in an appropriate, positive manner.

SUGGESTIONS FOR USE:

How/When To Use Scenario Task Cards

• Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate appropriate responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to show how "response" skills are used improperly and then asking the 'audience' to help reenact properly. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills and further help students understand the difference between appropriate and inappropriate responses to people's body language and gestures.
• Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes related to body language then perform the skit for the class.
• Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios.
• Discussion: Students can discuss the Body Language / Non-verbal Communication Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class. They can discuss things like “What would you do?”, “Why would you do that?”, and “What are some other options you could consider?”

Making Inferences is a challenging skill to master, especially for lower-level students. This resource includes two sets of Picture Inference Task Cards (80 cards in total) that are differentiated to meet the needs of both lower-level and higher-level students. The pictures in these task cards are very relevant as students "see" these everyday images almost anywhere they go!

DESCRIPTION

▶️ The first set of 40 cards, which are the color RED, have pictures that students can use to make inferences. These RED Picture Inference Task Cards include guiding questions to help lower level students make inferences.

▶️ The second set of 40 cards, which are the color GREEN, have the SAME pictures that students can use to make inferences, but without the guiding questions. Instead, this set of Picture Inference Task Cards read: “What can you infer from this picture?” and “Why do you think that?” These questions require high-level students to think for themselves as they pay close attention to picture details.

▶️ Finally, this resource includes a Picture Inference Worksheet that students can use to record their inferences and evidence. Students can record inferences and evidence for two pictures.

▶️ This is engaging practice for your especially ELL and Special Ed students and is perfect for mini-lessons, whole class instruction, cooperative learning, intervention groups, literacy centers, and small group instruction.

Suggestions on how you can use the Picture Inference Task Cards:

1. Small Group Instruction - You can have students engage in small group instruction where you provide additional support on the skill of inferencing. These Picture Inference Task Cards will support that type of instruction. You can have all students in small groups practice with the same Picture Inference Task Card number or you can distribute 1-2 task cards to each student to practice making inferences and citing evidence before reviewing.

2. Mini Lesson - You can load these Picture Inference Task Cards on the Smartboard and use them to demonstrate how to make an inference, while paying closing attention to details. They can also be used to discuss the importance of details and how they are used to encourage inferential thinking. You can even use these task cards to discuss the difference between relevant picture details and irrelevant details. Finally, you can use these inference task cards during the guided practice portion of your lesson.

3. Exit Slips - You can use these Picture Inference Task Cards as Exit Slips by distributing 1-2 task cards to each student to complete and hand in to you before they leave.

4. Partner Study - You can have students pair up and “test/question each other.” Partners not only ask each other to make valid inferences and support it with relevant picture details, but to be open to a variety of valid inferences that can be made from the same picture.

This special education task box is the perfect science activity for students learning about their body parts. In this life skills, activity students will use their fine motor skills to match pieces of an image to the whole image like a puzzle.

Teach your students how to shop in a department store. Job & Life Skills are an important part of a students Transition plan, CBI or Work program. Students need to know which department to go when they are shopping. Department Store Tools Level 1 is a fun way to improve the life and work skills for all students.

This is a paper based, EASTER themed resource. Products featured are Easter related but NOT directly religious. Examples of products featured: Easter candy (peeps, chocolate bunny), egg dye kit, plastic eggs, baskets, etc.

This resource is designed to expose students to a variety of real-world shopping situations. Students are given a prices on products and are asked to look at the money provided and determine if they have enough money. Students will also be asked look at the price of real products and identify the correct amount of money needed. Students will also calculate totals of multiple items

How to use this product:

•Print out and have students complete as a worksheet/ workbook.

•Print & laminate for repeated use for fast finishers.

•Project pages onto the board to complete as a class. Have students take turns coloring or circling the correct amount of money.

•Project pages onto board and have student use the cut out or laminated money to present the correct dollar up amount needed for each question.
