This digital student portfolio project for Google Sites is the perfect way to help your students showcase their work in a professional, organized, and user-friendly way. With this product, you can quickly create portfolios that highlight student work, achievements, and more. Plus, the digital portfolio can be easily shared with parents and administrators for viewing.

This project can range anywhere from 6th grade to 12th grade. Depending on the age, it takes them about 2-3 days to a week from my personal experience with my students.

Welcome to Engineering and Technology! Before we begin to see how engineering and technology affect our lives on a daily basis, let’s look at what is encompassed under the CTAE (Career, Technical and Agricultural Education) umbrella. We are going to do this by looking at a CTAE Pathway at the college level vs. a Math/Science Pathway at the college level. We are going to look at Kennesaw State University’s programs in several of these categories. Since KSU’s merger with Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Technology, this is a great place to look at several college options in each of these pathways.

This module includes 7 pages:

Introduction/description to CTAE

Who doesn't love to travel? Engage students as they plan a vacation to their dream destination.

The “Plan a Vacation” project utilizes either MS Office (Word and Excel) or Google Apps/Workspace (Docs, Sheets) to allow students to build skills in those programs along with skills in Internet research, reading, writing and critical thinking. In these projects, students research a vacation destination of their choice and complete a research sheet using MS Word or Google Docs. They utilize either MS Excel or Google Sheets to create a budget for their trip, and finally create a tri-fold Travel Brochure using a choice of MS Word, Google Docs, or Canva (www.canva.com) to share information about their chosen destination. Full instructions and grading rubrics are provided for each portion of the project, along with a sample budget spreadsheet (and answer key), and a sample brochure. Links to tutorials for all programs are provided in the student resources section, and a Quick Start Guide for Canva is also included.

The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be adapted for younger or older students.

Materials Required

· Access to computers for each student (or pair of students) with Internet and either MS Office (Word, Excel) or Google Apps/Workspace (Docs, Sheets).

· Sample travel brochures (optional) for ideas on layout

· Research: 2 (50 minute) class periods

You're about to start a Robotics Unit and you're looking for an informative and FUN way to introduce students to robots. THis Web Quest gives them the history of robots, looks at different types of robots and includes thought provoking video links.

They'll browse the websites of world leaders in robots, both humanoid and manufacturing. They'll complete charts and tables. They'll answer critical thinking questions.

What student doesn't love games – especially video games! In this lesson, students learn more about the origin and history of video games. Students choose a time period in history from a provided list, research that era, and then choose the software they will use to showcase their research. Students can choose to create a presentation, a brochure, or a video using Web 2.0 tools such as Prezi, Adobe Spark, eMaze, Canva, etc. (free, no download needed) or by using Microsoft Office or Google Apps. A full list of software/technology options is listed in the student lesson instructions and includes links to tutorials. For classrooms with limited technology, this lesson can be completed with students working in pairs or small groups. The completed presentations can be shared with the rest of the class if the teacher chooses.

This is a great activity for a social studies or history class, career exploration class, Principles of Arts, A/V Technology & Communications class, or any technology class. This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in high school as well.

Engineering Career Research and Brochure Project has students utilize Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher to showcase their research about an engineering career of choice. In addition to allowing students to build skills in those programs, they also develop their skills in Internet research, reading, writing and critical thinking. Learning about Transportation Careers gives students an introduction to what individuals in this career field do on the job. This is perfect for a technology, business or marketing class, or a class that focuses on careers. Students learn about the career as they research information and create a short PowerPoint presentation. Next, they apply their knowledge to learn more about logistics as they choose a product and understand how it would be transported and stored. Finally, they use Sketchup (a free CAD download) to create an “ideal” form of transportation and justify their choices for the design. This project based learning activity has students explore a college of their choice, research information about majors, classes, what life at college will be like and what it will cost and compile that data into Microsoft Word. Using that information, students create a poster to showcase their college of choice in a poster using either Microsoft Word or Google Docs that is suitable to print and display.
