Students will learn that energy exists in other forms, what energy is, how you can't always see energy, stored energy vs. energy in motion and examples for students to make connections with each, kinetic energy, examples of kinetic energy for students to make connections with it in real life, students will locate and circle the different kinds of kinetic energy, potential and kinetic energy and how it can go back and forth (picture explanations are also included to provide a visual), different forms of energy - electrical, light, sound, thermal, chemical, and mechanical energy are reviewed - their meanings and examples of each along with pictures so students can make connections with what they are learning in their personal life, what matter is and how it is in chemical energy, and energy transformation picture examples are provided. Students will then be required to write down the different types of energy that change to other kinds of energy when they are provided with picture examples. Students will also be required to draw picture and write down the forms of energy that were used to show energy transformation. At the end of the product, students can complete the review that includes short answer and multiple choice questions.

Throughout the product, students will answer short answer comprehension questions to ensure comprehension after reviewing each page of notes.

This package can be used in conjunction with the free iCell app (by Hudson Alpha), which is available for iPad and Android, as well as mobile devices. Note: the iPhone app is not as advanced as the iPad app as it only gives basic definitions of cell organelles. The app is a 3D interactive way for students to learn about plant and animal cells. You can move the cell around to see where the different cell organelles are located and click on the organelles to read basic, intermediate, or advanced, descriptions. I wish there were interactive programs like this when I had to learn about cells! This unit aligns with the Ontario Grade 8 Science curriculum. One way to use this package is have students use the app to explore the parts of an animal and a plant cell. After searching online for basic cell diagrams, I did not find any that looked similar to the app so I decided to draw a plant and animal cell in 3D to match the iCell app. The drawings match up to the cells used in the app. Students can look at the basic, intermediate, or advanced descriptions from the app and colour the cell using specific colours as identified in the handout. An additional set of questions is included to ensure students explore through each of the descriptions of the plant and animal cell. Students LOVE this lab! It gets them up, interactive and thinking! This is the popular stair lab with a CER built into it. It is set up for partners to both do the activity with the analysis on just one of the students data. It is a great way to incorporate the lab with practicing the CER skills!

Need some notes that you can do whole group AND have the "you do" portion incorporated? This is great for doing notes with the class, discussing energy pyramid, trophic levels, practicing the 10% rule and more! The students won't have time to be unengaged and it is great practice AND study guide!

This makes a great review activity or for a sub plan!  It has three parts to it.  The first is an abiotic / biotic sort where the students drag each factor to the correct box.  The second is primary and secondary circles with scenarios presented and the students have to cut and paste the scenario in the correct circle.  The third is pioneer species.  There are six pictures, and the students have to move the correct pictures into the pioneer species rectangle.

This is a google slide so you could embed into a canvas assignment and each student could do it and then submit it.  It could be shared and then each student would have to make a copy in order to work in it then submit their own copy.
