Real-Life Math Fun Activity! Practical Stats - Do tall students jump high?

By Daniel

It is always a good strategy to review essential skills with your students, and this is right up there with the most essential!

Do tall students jump high and far? Do the same students jump high and far? Students collect their own quantitative data to answer these and other questions. The data collection does not take long. Afterwards, students calculate the measures of central tendency - mean, median, mode, Q1, Q3, min, max, range and upper and lower outliers (extremes). The handout (with complete answer key for the teacher) contains the formulas students need in order to do all calculations.

This project has been tried, tested and refined in my own middle and high school classes for many years.

Quantitative Data, Measures of Central Tendency, Mean, Median, Mode, Quartile 1, Quartile 3, Interquartile Range, Outliers, Extremes, Data, Project, Range, Minimum, Maximum.

You might also want to include these resources in the Series on Stats and Data!

⭐️Black History Month Math Activities Coordinate Graphing points bulletin board

By Epsilon Math Craft & Special Education

Get your students excited about coordinates during Black History Month & martin luther king jr Day! These worksheets aim to plot a number of coordinates to find an inspiring message to celebrate some of the most influential African American leaders.

This can help motivate your students to try their best to get the message right by plotting the ordered pairs correctly and accurately.

This resource can be used as an activity, math centers, fast finishers, homework, substitute, "filler days", or end-of-the-year graphing activity! Completed messages will make great bulletin boards for your classroom or hallway.

Figures included:

  • Mohamed Ali — "Don't count the days, make the days count."
  • Martin Luther King Jr — " The time is always right to do what is right.”
  • Malcolm X — "Education is the passport to the future."
  • Kareem Abdul-Jabbar — "You can't win if you don't play as a unit."

Directions:

Students will plot letters on a coordinate plane, write each letter above its respective point, and then read the message by following the order of the plotted points from left to right.

A coordinate grid is included with this activity. Only the first quadrant is used therefore it can be used for beginners.

With this resource, you can challenge your class to test their understanding of coordinates to find the hidden message in a fun and meaningful way. So it's a great way of testing their skills.

The activity is No prep and is made to help you teach. It can be downloaded in seconds, all you have to do is print and share them with your class or for homeschooling, it is also great for bulletin board ideas. It's that easy. To make things easier, the answer keys are included.

Multiplication (Times) Tables, Products, Factors, Multiples, Prime Numbers and Rules for Divisibility form an important part of the RSA Public Key Cryptosystem. It is important that students know (and that teachers always remind them) when they are busy with these topics, that they are learning fundamental mathematics needed to encrypt data and secret messages.

This task, (with key), focuses on ...

Multiplication Tables

Listing Products in a set

Listing all the Factors of an Integer in a set

Listing Multiples of an Integer in a set

The proper notation for Factors, Products and Multiples

The qualities of Prime and Composite Numbers

The Rules of Divisibility of Integers

Exciting News: This task is the first of 7 that will teach students ALL the mathematics they need to be able to do RSA Encryption. You can find them all here.
