Bushcraft Battle Royale: Reading Comprehension, World Geography, Biomes, Prehistoric Survival, & Fortnite-Style Activity

By The Academic Architect

Use this Reading Response Assignment and Battle Royale style activity to teach about Bushcraft and Primitive Survival Techniques while reinforcing simple geographical knowledge about world geography and the basic biomes of the world. Any fan of fortnite or other battle royale style video games will love this assignment! But even the students who don't play fortnite will enjoy making their battle royale survival plan.

I normally use this assignment during my Ancient History unit on early humans as a way to help students understand the hardship of surviving without modern technology. I've also used it directly after my unit on the Fall of Rome when we discuss the collapse of civilization before diving into Feudalism in Europe.

Really this assignment is a plug and play that you can use in many different class periods. Thinking tactically about survival never goes out of style, and students are always engaged during this assignment. I've also used it as a last minute sub plan and have never gotten a bad note!

Figurative Language Short Passage | Set 1 | Close Reading | ELA Writing Activity

By Perfectly Planned Designs

This Figurative Language Short Passage Set is a no-prep, printable close reading activity that's perfect for middle school and high school. This is a 205-word passage filled with 14 examples of figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, simile, and personification. I’ve found that although my students can tell me the definition of these terms, simile is the only one they can truly pick out in a text. As a result, their writing is filled with overused similes that need work! This figurative language passage set is rigorous, uses higher-level words and phrases, and in addition to merely identifying the different types, students will be asked to discuss the impact it has on the reader, as they’re asked to do on standardized testing. Check out my other figurative language passage sets HERE!

Simply print and go! There is truly no preparation needed, which is why this set is perfect to leave for sub plans, bell ringers, homework, test prep, review or assessment!

*As an optional review activity, use my No-prep Four Corners Figurative Language Activity resource for a fun whole-group game, then use this passage set for assessment!

Activity:
Students can complete all three worksheets as part of a packet, but I suggest using one each day. If you teach allusion, alliteration, idiom, or onomatopoeia, you can ask students to include those in Task 2 where they will be asked to continue the passage using a similar writing style. I have left some blanks on the checklist for this very purpose.

Reflection:
The class can review the answers and comments as a whole group when the activity is complete. You’ll be surprised how much better they’ll get at figurative language after being exposed to some high-quality examples!

Guided Reading Lesson Plan & Activities for Grade 10

By Bright Classroom Ideas Marketplace

Guided reading is not a novel approach in the realm of education. It has existed for a long time and has been extensively studied.

Fountas and Pinnell (1996) demonstrated that guided reading effectively enhances students' reading skills. This occurs by offering a well-organized and encouraging educational setting in which learners can develop their reading abilities under the supervision of an instructor.

The aim of guided reading is to assist students in cultivating essential reading skills including decoding, fluency, segmenting, and understanding. These abilities can thrive through small group teaching, support, and feedback from educators.

Guided reading enables teachers to address the individual requirements of every student according to their grade level. You will be more equipped to offer each student the specific assistance they require to enhance their reading abilities.

This ebook includes an elaborate guided reading lesson plan for your 10th-grade students. Activities and suggested answers are also included.
