High School Spanish Internet Activities

This internet activity unit has everything you need for your students to plan a virtual trip to Madrid! Air travel, hotels, shopping, meals, transportation, museums, spectacles, and budge worksheets - you can use them on a stand-alone basis to address different themes, or together as one big unit. Includes a list of websites that will be useful to complete the project. Planning travel is a useful skill for all students but it's also a fun activity to do.

As your students work their way through the activities, they will be learning about different aspects of planning a trip. They will also learn about the city of Madrid and its history and monuments. Each activity addresses a different aspect of trip-planning. Once they've done all of the activities, you can have students turn in the completed activities or put them together in a presentation about their trip. A fun way to learn a useful skill!

This is one of my students' favorite projects and a great way to wrap up a unit on clothing. In this project, students will embark on a virtual shopping adventure to purchase clothing items for a family in need. With $600 American dollars collected for a family affected by a recent house fire, students will use their language skills to navigate an authentic Spanish online store to select clothing items for a family of four. My fashionistas get particularly into this one!

Students will:

• Translate their American dollars into Spanish Euros

• Browse through clothing categories

• Convert to European sizes

• Add items to their virtual shopping cart

• Stay within a given budget

• Take notes on new Spanish vocabulary encountered during their shopping experience.

• Complete a "Listo de Regalos" to document their purchases

• Prepare a brief oral presentation in Spanish to share with the class.

This project not only reinforces essential language skills such as vocabulary acquisition and currency conversion but also promotes empathy, cultural awareness, and community engagement. Authentic listening activities for Spanish class can be so hard to find!  We want our students to practice their listening skills but we don’t want to spend an hour searching for a good video!  This YouTube video is about winter in Chile.  A young person takes us around his city and explains what winter is like there.  To check comprehension, students will answer questions as they watch. Students will make comparisons and discover similarities and differences between their own experience and the speaker’s experience in Chile.   An answer key is also included!

These Spanish Task Cards are geared towards winter activities, vacations and winter holidays. Situation Task Cards are a great way to get your Spanish 1, 2, 3 and 4 students talking and using language creatively!  (These are generic enough to be used with any curriculum!)  

There are 20 different scenarios which give students an idea of what to talk about in a story that they make up. The task cards come in 3 versions!  First I have a large scale digital version that can be displayed for the class.  The other version is printable (4 cards per page) and comes in both black and white and an attractive color version. Slides come with helpful vocab that students may need to discuss the scenario.

These winter-themed task cards feature scenarios for present, past and future time frames.  Google Slides can be modified if you need to change something to meet your students’ needs!

These Winter Writing Prompts for Spanish classes solve a number of your challenges! Your students can work together in groups to write about Christmas and Winter Vacation, and it turns into a fun competition where everyone learns!  AND- you only correct ONE paper per group!!  Students help each other improve their writing as they try to increase creativity, detail, sophistication and accuracy, all while having fun!  These writing prompts can also be used individually.   Embed culture and traditions into your writing practice!  There are 3 prompts for Novice High level students and 3 for Intermediate Low students.  Scaffolds such as vocab lists, sophistication word charts and a graphic organizer are all included!

20 Questions that help students practice their Spanish 1 Skills.

I like to call this Survival Spanish.

There are two mystery pictures in order to move on to the next picture students have to complete the first one. The activity allows students to continue but it tells them when their answer is incorrect. At the end it asks students to re-try the activity until they score a perfect score.

Make learning about the Spanish-speaking world interesting with this no-prep digital escape game.  The game includes access to a website where your students will hunt for the keys to unlock a set of locks.  Students will need to read the clues very carefully and watch videos, visit websites, and read texts to find the information they need to win the game.  Very easy to use - just send your students to the website and let them work!  Students can play individually or in teams.

Digital escape games are a fun way to start a unit, or to review at the end of a unit.  They can also be used to learn about a cultural or historical event.  This game will have your students reading carefully and paying attention to the smallest details in order to complete the challenge and unlock the locks.

Prep is very easy - you just need to share the website URL with your students.  You may want to test the site before you use it, just to make sure nothing is blocked by your district.  As some of the clues can be challenging to unlock, you may choose to help your students with the trickier ones.  With the teacher guide, you will have the answer key - so you can help guide students towards the correct answer by giving them hints, or if you have limited time, you can adjust the game by reducing the number of locks they need to unlock - just give them the answer(s) to help the activity fit your time constraints.
