Level Ups provide increasing levels of challenge and rigor on critical Common Core Grade 8 math standards. Students begin at level zero, working on the pre-requisite skills needed for a standard, then level up each time they complete a task. If a student can complete level 4, both you and them know they have mastered that standard.

Aligned to the common core standards, Level Ups provide 5 levels of challenge for your students to complete, starting with pre-requisite exponent and fraction skills all the way up to simplifying complex expressions involving integer exponents.

Students start at level zero and work their way up to level 4, giving them accurate feedback on what they have mastered, and what they still need to work on. This lesson works as a great way to review integer exponents after teaching the concept, or as preparation for an upcoming assessment.

This activity includes:

• Suggested activity instructions (based on how I run this in my classroom).

Aligned to the common core standards, this Level Ups activity provides 4 levels of challenge for your students to complete, starting with pre-requisite proportional relationship skills such as identifying when a relationship is or is not proportional all the way up to comparing units rate from different representations.

Students start at level zero and work their way up to level 3, giving them accurate feedback on what they have mastered, and what they still need to work on. This lesson works as a great way to review comparing proportional relationships after teaching the concepts, or as preparation for an upcoming assessment.

This is a bundle of 5 of our clip cards, a great tool for testing mathematical concepts using multiple choice in a physical way for when you don't have access to a computer:

These clip cards are a great way to test students’ knowledge of recognising fractions using a physical multiple choice system. It includes all simpli ed fraction forms from 1/2 to 9/10s, and includes one bonus card of 10/10, and contains fractions in the form of circles, squares, strips and objects. The given possible answers have been carefully chosen to allow teachers to spot any misconceptions students may have about fractions. harvest2020

The idea of this activity is that students work our what fraction of the given image is shaded, then clip a clothespin/peg or a paperclip to what they think is the correct answer.

This activity works equally well when the cards are laminated. Students simply circle the correct answer using a dry erase marker. Alternatively, you can print these on paper, hand out to your class at the end of the lesson, so they can put their names on and circle the correct answer, serving as a great exit ticket/plenary to the lesson.

These cards are in colour, but print equally well in grey scale for cost savings.

The fraction files are back! To truly understand fractions, students must understand the basics of what a fraction is. Fraction bars are a great tool for understanding how to partition a fraction, what a unit fraction is, how to name shaded parts of a fraction, and even the difference between a numerator and a denominator. This DOUBLE set of 72 total task cards gives your students ample opportunity to practice understanding and identifying both fractions of a whole and unit fractions. Works well with any fractions unit, and also works with Grade 3, Module 5, Eureka Math / Engage NY Math. Set 1 includes 36 short answer cards in which students identify the unit fractions and fractions of a whole on fraction bar models. Set 2 includes 36 multiple choice cards in which students name the number of parts to the fraction bar and identify both unit fractions and fractions of the shaded part of the whole.. Understanding unit fractions are a great early step in understanding the concept of a fraction. This set of 36 task cards gives your students 3 steps in understanding unit fractions (fractions with a numerator of 1). The first 12 have labeled number lines and students simply plot the given fraction on the line. The next 12 have students label the number line, then plot the unit fraction. The final 12 task cards have students partition and label the number line, then plot the unit fraction. There are 2 types of answer sheets - one that can be printed double sided, with 18 answers to a page, and a set of 3 (12 questions to a page) breaking the cards down by difficulty level. Word problems and fractions! Your students are just learning to identify what a fraction is through various models. Now is the time to apply those models to word problems! The Fraction Files now include using word problems to identify fractional parts of a whole or a set! This set of 72 task cards include cards for students to read the problem, draw a model, and name the fraction given or fraction left over. A few cards towards the end of each set (36 MC cards, 36 short answer cards) are a bit more involved, with critical thinking skills needed to find the answer.
